Are Head Wraps Appropriate for Work? Absolutely!

Are head wraps appropriate for work? Yes, of course! Head wraps and turbans should be welcome in any environment, particularly in a professional space.

Head wraps are a symbol of empowerment, and wearing a head wrap to work should make you feel confident and ready to conquer the day. We talk you through a few frequently asked questions based on the topic and offer advice on choosing head wraps and other headwear for work.

What Head Wraps Can I Wear to Work?

Head wraps come in many different styles, materials and designs. Just like any other aspect of dressing to go into the workplace, if you are wearing head wraps to work, they must be appropriate. Bright, colourful and patterned head wraps are great, but try to steer clear of anything that might stick out for the wrong reasons and appear inappropriate (like a giant photo of your dog – yes, those exist!).

Have a look at the variety of styles of head wraps as well – scarves and turbans are our most popular, as well as being effortlessly stylish and professional. Our Bea Turban is gorgeously understated if you’re looking to be fabulous without making a massive statement, or the Yanna Yellow Sunflower Turban is bright and brilliant, in shades of orange that will complement almost any summer outfit.

Something else to consider is your head wrap’s material. At work, you need it to be comfortable and keep you warm but without overheating your head. Of course, wearing head wraps to work is different for every person and every job, so really, it’s about what you find the most comfortable and convenient. Can I Wear a Head Wrap to an Interview?

Interviews are difficult for anyone, especially those coping with hair loss. Without having met the interviewer previously in many cases, it’s easy to feel awkward about covering your head. But in any interview situation, confidence is your best friend. If you choose to wear a head wrap, put it on and rock it! It is an accessory, just like a necklace or handbag – don’t let anyone make you feel like head wraps are unprofessional.

Job interviews are not about your hair loss; they are about your skills and accomplishments. The interviewer should be too busy being dazzled by your qualifications and professionalism to even ask about it. Unless accommodations need to be made for you in the workplace, there should be no reason for it to be brought up.

Will I Be the Only One Wearing a Head Wrap at Work?

It is entirely likely that you will not be the only person at your workplace wearing a head covering. Many people choose to cover their heads for religious, cultural or modesty reasons. Among black communities, head wraps have a rich and beautiful history, and many people who practice Islam and Sikhism choose to wear headscarves. With so many different people using head wraps to feel gorgeous and express themselves, you are in great company!

So, are head wraps appropriate for work? Yes, they absolutely are. No matter why or how you wear them, they are a powerful, stylish accessory, and you deserve to feel strong and confident in wearing one. We have hundreds of head wraps available on our website in various styles, materials and patterns so that you can look and feel your best when you go out and get that dream job!

  2. Hello, i have been battling with Alopecia Areta for 6 years now. For the past 10 month’s i have been in a Alopecia Areta study in my area. My hair has came back thick, red & curly (i had straight blonde hair as a kid). It’s an everyday hassle with the wigs & worried about getting too hot & sweating. I came across this page in my news feed. Love it. When reading this article it had empowered me to try the headscarves at work.
