Wearing a wig?

Wearing a wig?

When you’re going to a Festival?
Or a similar outdoor gig?

This is probably my favourite blog topic to date! If you know me, or follow my Instagram, you’ll already know that I love going to festivals or music events. In fact this is probably one of those times that you can really embrace wearing a wig because let’s be honest, everyone likes to get a bit creative at festivals. It takes serious weeks of planning for me and my friends to get prepared (I’m not even joking, haha!)

So once the outfit is sorted, and then the endless supply of glitter and face jewels are on order, and of course squeezy bottles stashed full of wine are hidden in our wellies, there’s really only one more thing to decide,

What wig am I going to wear?
How do I deal with it at a festival?

It really depends what your preferences are when it comes to festivals to be honest, are you camping for the whole weekend or are you just visiting for the day? I’ve never let wearing a wig stop me from doing either options and neither should you.

Fancy camping out?

So you’ve decided to camp at a festival and probably have one of the best weekends of your life, good for you. My best bit of advice that I could probably give you here, is that it’s no big deal, and after my first few festival experiences, I barely thought about it twice. Your tent, is your personal, private space, so treat it that way! If you want to sit there and have a breather from your wig for ten minutes, who’s stopping you? Just because you’re in a foreign environment doesn’t mean that you can’t get on with your life as normal. The only things that I’d recommend: First, Take a woolly hat for at night, tents are cold at the best of times so keep that beautiful head of yours warm whilst you sleep. Secondly, take some baby wipes. The chances are that will be your make-do shower for a few days, just remember to wipe down your head. We all know how warm and sticky it can get underneath your wig, especially when your mid-rave.

Rainy day wig problems?

wearing a wig in the rain

I’ve actually been doing this for the past two years, not for any reason in particular, but just as I’ve got older something about staying in a hotel and being able to shower seems to appeal to me. I know, I’m high maintenance. I suppose you could say this is the easy option for us wig-wearers but there’s still a few things that you may want to consider. To make it easy for everyone I’ve created a little list below of problems and solutions;

PROBLEMSOLUTION
Busy dancing your heart out and your wig slipsBe prepared! Secure your wig before you go. Invest in some wig tape – it’s easy to use and remove, plus it’s super secure.
What if it rains and my wig gets wetFirst of all, I hope that you’ll be too drunk to care (or at least tipsy) but invest in a poncho. A couple of quid and it’s literally a life saver!
I want to put glitter in my hairWe all love glitter at a festival, but I’d recommend wearing an old wig if this is the style you want to go for. Trust me, you will be finding glitter in your hair for weeks afterwards.
I’m not sure how to style my wig for a festivalThere are so many different options for you to style your hair in order for you to feel secure all day. I usually opt for a fishtail plait or a shorter wig to stop my hair from getting tangled and knotted. Or go one better and get a cute fedora hat or jewelled cap.
I’m scared people will know that it’s a wigBelieve me, every single person at that festival will be enjoying themselves too much to worry about whether your wearing a wig. Just smile, make friends and have fun!

Here I am wearing the Tessa in colour Illumina R – I LOVE it!

I’ve tried to cover most scenarios although I’ve probably missed something. Festival season is almost over now but that means you have more than enough time to get prepared for next year. Never ever let hair loss stop you from living your life and doing the things you enjoy the most. For me festivals are something I look forward to every year.

Lots of love

  1. Hi Jeddie,

Top model? I wish!! Haha thank you very much for your lovely comments! I try to not let wearing a wig stop me from doing what i want or looking a certain way. I 100% agree there, it’s all about the confidence xxx

  2. you always look lovely and I so appreciate your videos, but these zany festival photos, Wow! you look like a top model! Very inspiring and it shows that ‘wig confidence’ is around 12% technology, but 75% ‘carrying it off’. If you don’t think of the wig as not being ‘you’, then it will show in your body language and people will notice. You wear it so well…
