Can you swim in a wig? Wearing a wig to the Gym?

wearing-a-wig-to-the-gymLike most women, I’m body conscious so exercise is a really important part of my life, and I can’t let such a simple thing like wearing a wig affects that but I had to ask myself. . .
can you swim in a wig?

When I was younger and at school, I used to dread PE and certain activities because I wore a wig. Now when I look back, I think the only reason why I was so worried was because I was simply uneducated and inexperienced in the whole wig department. Like how could I predict if one rollie pollie in gymnastics would move my wig out of place?

Now, I’m not worried. Firstly, because I no longer have to do gymnastics HA HA, but secondly, because it’s just not an issue and a simple slick of wig tape can help you face some of those fears. Exercise helps you both emotionally and physically. Not only does it relieve stress, it treats depression and boosts confidence, so why let wearing a wig to the gym bother you? It’s all about adapting to your lifestyle.

I go to an outdoor fit camp 4 times a week, whatever the weather, wind rain or snow and not once has my wig ever stopped me from fully taking part. I’ve never been one to let things get in my way of what I want to achieve and you shouldn’t either, so the answer to Can you swim in a wig? is yes! Here are my top tips for exercising and wearing a wig:

  1. Wear an old wig to the gym. Perhaps you have a wig, which has seen better days, or you just don’t wear as much anymore. This will prevent your favourite wig from excessive wear.
  2. Wash your wig frequently. If you’re going to the gym in your wig, you’re going to sweat. I often feel like I’m wearing a hat. The best way to protect your wig from excessive sweating or damage is to keep it clean!
  3. Use some wig tape! Don’t be worried about your wig slipping when your shaking them hips to zumba!
  4. Be confident – Girl you have the hottest looking locks in the gym right now!
  5. Don’t be afraid to go swimming in your wig. You wash your wig right? So what’s stopping you from going swimming? Ok so I might not advise that you go diving in head first, but if you secure your wig properly, you won’t have anything to worry about. I would still recommend using an old wig for swimming, as pool chemicals can put too much stress on the fibre.
  6. Finally, HAVE FUN.

  1. I have lost my wig in the sea due to a wave knocking me off my feet, so now choose resorts with calm waters.
Scuba should work due to the mask strap, (I wouldn’t rely on glue or tape)
I swim But due to false eyelashes always wear my sunglasses and dont immerse my face.
High fairground rides were my worst nightmare

  2. So when you say secure your wig with tape, how much tape is reasonable? Going on holiday shortly…do I need to tape lines across my head or a few squares placed at specific areasto swimm in a pool? Thanks in advance!!

  3. This is a difficult one to answer as I have never been scuba diving! I would suggest that if you use an extra strong tape to secure your wig then it should not move. This will also depend on the length of time that you are diving for. You do also have the security of the goggle strap holding it tight against you head.
We would also suggest that you do not use your best wig as prolonged periods in salt water may damage the fibres.
We hope that you have a great time and please let us know how you get on 🙂

  4. How about scuba diving? Any suggestions as to whether the wig is secure at depth?
