Ann this sounds gr8 ! I think I will try your way I wear wigs due 2 medical issues So I have plenty but its kinda of costly so I’m deciding 2 start putting more thought N 2 good up keep Thank U ????
I have several wigs and I store each one in stockings or tights (only one leg cut off of course). I roll the wigs right side out and push them through the stocking – cut the toe out of the stocking so the wig can be pulled through crown first when you want to wear it. It keeps them in very good shape and is fantastic when popping in a suitcase for your holiday.
I’m having problems buying the very fine nets for wigs storage. B The Chemist used to do them, but now, it appears not. Any ideas?
This is a great wee article, Lila! I love it x handy hints – thank you x
I’ve been wearing wigs for 20 years now and i keep my every day and special wigs on polystyrene heads and on upside plastic bowls ( with some tissue placed over bowl first)
In the past i’ve found that folding wigs in half and storing for a while flattens the flick out styles that i like.
Only recently i bought a mail order wig (not from simply wigs) which was flat on one side.Kept it cos desperate but hate wearing it.Reckon its been stored a long time in box.Just my personal opion.
I have my favourites kept on wig stands and covered over with a scarf.
However I am unsure if I should fold them inside out and in the boxes they came in or right side out.
You don’t mention this in your blog.
So I’ve read that Kate stores her inside out too. So in your opinion should they be stored inside out or right way out inside a box?
And if storing for a length of time, should they always be washed before storing?
thanks
My three most used wigs are kept on wig heads, each loosely covered by a supermarket sized bag which keeps the dust off whilst still maintaining a sizeable gap enabling the all important free circulation of air around the wig.
My remaining six wigs I keep folded into the nets and original boxes they came in. I additionally form a tissue paper pad within the crown area to maintain some shape.
hello re storing my wig can i store it on the mannequins head wrapped in tissue paper in a box or does it have to be folded in half in tissue and put in a box, and how long can we store them for .
Thank you so much for this Lila, I was just about to enquire re storage of wigs so your advice was very timely. When some of my wigs have arrived they are packed, inside out, in tissue paper in the box. Is it OK to store them in that way, ie inside out and folded as you describe. I have some wig stands but am aware of dust etc and wonder if you ever cover your wigs with a chiffon scarf placed lightly to keep free of dust etc. Any advice on that would be very welcome.
Thank you again.
