Wig headaches are a discomfort that you don’t need to accept, and we have just the answer to relieve them! At Simply Wigs, we want ladies to feel fabulous and comfortable in their wigs, and so this blog will explain some great ways to relieve any nasty wig headaches.
Choosing the Most Comfortable Wig
The most important factor to consider when you’re experiencing headaches is if you’re wig is right for you. On our website, we have designed a comfort chart ranging from moderately comfortable to extremely comfortable to help with just that. Simply click on ‘what’s inside’ when on a wig product page. This is where cutting costs should be avoided. Quality wigs are made with comfort in mind, minimising the possibility of wig headaches. However, lower-price wigs sometimes cut corners on the comfort aspects.
Comfort guides can be found on all wig products as shown:
Choosing the Right Size
Often, wig headaches are caused by wearing a wig that is too tight. Tight wigs add unnecessary pressure to the scalp and it’s this unwanted pressure that can result in headaches. Before purchasing your wig, it’s important that you measure your head properly and choose the right wig size for you. To do this, take your cloth tape measure and measure from your front hairline to just above the ears, to where your neck bends, and back around to the front hairline – this will measure your circumference.
Here at Simply Wigs, we offer 3 MAIN cap sizes:
Average Size: Between 54cm to 57cm (21.25 to 22.5 inches).
Large Size: Larger than 57cm (22.5 to 24 inches).
Petite Size: Between 51cm and 54cm (20 to 21.25 inches).
If you’re unsure about which wig will be the most comfortable for you, or need help measuring and choosing a wig size, you can make an appointment at our lovely fitting rooms!
Investing in a Comfy Grip
Instead of investing in a new wig, you may want to try our wonderful and effective Comfy Grip Deluxe Headband. This is a therapeutic headband that is placed under your wig or headwear. Its purpose is to secure your wig and distribute its weight and pressure evenly, helping to relieve headaches for wig wearers experiencing them.
Why the Comfy Grip is Great for Headaches
As it is filled with a therapeutic gel, the Comfy Grip distributes the weight of your wig evenly and therefore relieves pressure spots, which are often the cause of the infamous headaches. Even as a wig-wearer who isn’t experiencing headaches, you might be amazed at the added comfort added by the Comfy Grip!
One size fits all? Surely not…
Before we all get sceptical, the Comfy Grips’ versatility means that it does successfully fit all women, from large to petite heads, no hair to long locks.
The product has two sides, one smooth and the other a massage-pebbled feel. This versatile product can be used by wig wearers with hair and without. The smooth side hugs to the scalp where hair is lost, making it perfect for chemotherapy patients and those with alopecia. Whereas the pebbled side grips to hair and stays put.
Non-slip
Another reason why we love this product is due to the fact that it helps to keep lovely wigs in place. Although many wigs are designed with anti-slip features, there is sometimes a worry when experiencing a lot of movement, such as on a run. In these cases, the Comfy Grip adjusts to your body movements and avoids slipping, evenly distributing the weight of the wig.
Cooling
In the summer and during exercise, we understand that wearing a wig cap can be uncomfortable. The wonderful skin-like texture allows a slight lift and helps air to circulate, providing a much more enjoyable and cooler experience.
Taking a rest from your wig
Sometimes, prolonged wear of a wig can cause headaches. In this case, there are some little tips you can follow to reduce the time you wear your wig:
• It is not ideal to sleep in your wig as it not only prolongs the wear but can damage the wig. However, we understand if women would prefer to keep it on for confidence or ease reasons. Your wig wearing must be right for you.
• When getting ready, put your wig on just before you leave the house. Though make sure you leave enough time to comfortably apply your wig as you do not want to be in a rush.
• Try taking your wig off on an evening.
• If you feel adventurous and confident enough, perhaps consider a day of the week where you don’t wear your wig. Perhaps opting for some fashionable headwear instead.

No matter what, since I suffer chronic headaches any pressure on my flat nape is a no go. I really want someone to design a cap that transfers pressure from the muscles at the top of the neck to the occipital bone instead, somehow, and also grips to the head like the velvet bands. I’m thinking a flexible piece of vinyl or stiffer fabric shaped kind of like a baseball cap brim, that hugs your occipital and leaves the gap inside that C shape which will be directly over the nape. You could even put lace and wefts there but nothing snug. The pressure would be taken by the c shaped stiffer piece and then the elastic along the sides plus whatever the front construction is. It may take some fiddling to get the right design but I think it could work for those of us who have issues there.
Since I’ve been wearing my wigs every day I’ve developed definite neck stiffness and discomfort. I think it may be because I subconsciously restrict my neck movement somewhat when I have a wig on. I only ever wear lightweight pixies and they’re not tight around my head. Not sure what the solution is other than trying to minimise the amount of time I spend wearing wigs. It’s probably like any aid one wears – glasses, hearing aids, dentures etc – much as we love them it’s always good to take them off!
I lost my hair 15 years ago and I’ve been wearing wigs since then. My wigs are not tight they are comfortable and adjustable. I feel It’s been a long time. I would like to get comfy grips since I can’t go with my bare head. Thank you.
I purchased a beautiful hair accessory which covers my entire head. I know the clips inside are a part of my headaches. I love wearing it but my migraines are bad every time! It was too expensive not to keep but HELP please on a solution
I finally found a wig after 2 yrs of looking. Cut all my hair off. Luckily I’m still working remotely bcuz I can’t even wear the wig without getting a headache within the first 30 minutes I have to take it off. It’s horrible. Can u return if product desn’t wirk?
Which lacefronts are the least itchy?
