My hair loss journey started in my teens. It was insidious at first with gradual thinning over the crown. My hairdresser initially commented on the change that he had seen since my last cut. I remember the feeling of being completely shocked, as up until that point I was oblivious to it.
I became completely paranoid after that, always checking in the mirror to see how the loss had progressed. I started spending excessive time delicately styling my hair to cover the balding patch that seemed to increase every day. It was heart-breaking to say the least.
Then came comments from friends and family and ‘helpful advice’. Every time I switched on the TV there would always be an advert about a new hair care product that would slowly chip away at my confidence. Then came the scalp sprays and scarves and headbands.
At some point I decided that I am not going to be a victim and let my hair loss define me.
I started doing my research and purchased my first wig after months of research.

Wearing it outside took another feat of courage. I was so fearful that everyone would realise that it is not my biological hair. It turned out nobody noticed, and I even got a few compliments! Why on earth did I not do this earlier?
Since then, I have not looked back. Hair loss and wearing wigs is a journey that we all will have to go through.
No two stories are the same, however the unifying thread in all of us is that we are beautiful and have a level of tenacity that is remarkable.
Love to you all, Ash x
