“A poem is a form of literary art that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic qualities of language to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, literal or surface-level meanings.”
This World Poetry Day, we invited our Simply Wigs community to share their experiences and emotions on a topic that affects millions of lives: Hair loss.
The response was incredible — we received heartfelt and deeply moving poems that shared the journey of hair loss from every angle: grief, resilience and self-discovery.
Each entry reminded us why poetry is such a powerful way to share stories and emotions about hair loss. All those who entered will receive a £10 voucher, to use against their next purchase.
After much thoughtful reading and discussion, we are proud to announce the three winners of this year’s poetry competition:

“I was inspired to write this poem because hair loss is something that touches so many lives, including my own. For years, my hair was my crown and glory, but due to illness it has become thin and unmanageable, and with that I felt a part of my confidence slipping away. Turning to wigs has given women back not just a sense of style, but also a sense of self. They have become a source of strength and beauty for many women, offering company and confidence when we need it most.
“Winning this competition is such a wonderful and unexpected honour. It means so much to know that my words could resonate with others on a similar journey to mine. More than anything, I hope my poem encourages women to embrace wigs not as a sign of loss, but as a way of rediscovering their own confidence and celebrating themselves anew.” – Annette x
HER CROWN

“I wrote the poem because I wanted to encourage others with hair loss to embrace themselves and be in awe of their own strength.”
Thank you for sharing your stories with us and for opening up about what your poems mean to you.

Both brilliant. Well done
