So, lets start with the basics. I have alopecia and I have been now since I was a child. So, Why do I wear a wig? I have no answers and no reasons why, and that was probably the hardest part for me growing up. I used to wear a wig to fit in, and avoid being stared at by classmates. But even still, I felt anxious. Anxious in case anyone ever asked questions.
Confidence from Wearing a Wig
Now, I’m totally different. I think a lot of that had to do with growing up and surrounding myself with the right people but a wig brings me confidence. There is honestly no better feeling than having that ‘fresh-wig’ feeling. It’s the moment you try a new style, or new colour, and embrace that L’Oréal you’re worth it hair flick. I can’t remember ever feeling that good when I had my own hair. Not to mention, how easy it is to get ready in the morning! I get that extra 20 minutes in bed, because I don’t have to faff around with a greasy hair do. Wig cap on, hair set in place, quick brush through. It’s as easy as 1 – 2 – 3!
I never thought I would see the day, but now I’m confident enough to wear a completely different wig everyday, I’ll even co-ordinate it with my outfit! However, this is still a fairly newfound confidence. I would often purchase a couple of different wigs, maybe one for day to day and one for occasions and I would try to keep to similar colours to make it more realistic. However the more and more I visited simply wigs and tried on various wigs, the more I fell in love with each and every one! I love how different colours suit different skin tones and I think its fab how each style can completely transform your look. Who wouldn’t want that in a matter of seconds?
Now when people ask me questions about my hair, I’m completely honest. Wearing a wig used to be my biggest secret, but in fact I’ve never felt more comfortable!
