Whispers of a Wig Wearer | I Felt a Million Dollars

Hi, my name is Diane and I am a wig wearer and would like to share my story with you all.

When I turned 60, I had to visit my GP for just a routine checkup. I gave all the usual tests and had to wait for the results to come back but several days later, the doctor’s surgery rang me and asked me to make an appointment to discuss my results. This made me quite anxious, and I took my appointment the next day.

The doctor explained that I had developed type 2 diabetes. I was quite shocked, but the doctor explained it to me very well, he prescribed my drugs and a machine to tests my blood. I remember this very well as I left the pharmacy with a whole bag full of stuff! I had never been one for doctor’s visits, I was quite well and had never any problems – until now.

I began to take my medication as a diabetic, but the following year my hair had gone noticeably very thin especially at the front and I was told it was the medication that was causing this. Something that only happens to few patients, but I was a bit unlucky. I had always had a good head of hair, I used to be a hairdresser and have always had a flair for doing my hair in all styles and I visited the hairdressers regularly.

As my hair got thinner and thinner, I began to be awfully conscious of this and stopped going to the hairdresser plus I was always on the lookout for hair thickening products as well which was costing me a fortune.

One day, as I was in the shopping centre, I noticed a hairpiece on a wig stall. There was a lovely one on the model that I liked the style and colour of and asked if I could try it on.

Wow oh wow! Did that make feel good or what? I bought it straight away, took it home and tried it on for my husband who instantly gave me the thumbs up.

I felt a million dollars in it and wore it at our caravan. I was stood on the decking after just putting it on and the lady next door commented “oh you look lovely today, are you going somewhere nice?” That was it! She confirmed how I felt.

The following Monday morning, I plucked up the courage to wear it for work. I worked for the local Council and I was a senior manager, so my appearance was important to me and I always needed to dress smartly. I can honestly say, I have never had so many compliments, they kept coming and coming. Every time I met someone whom I had not seen for a while, they too would comment how good my hair looked. I knew myself it did because I felt fantastic.

The style I chose was the Noriko Reece and the shade Nutmeg (R). I began to realise now that I couldn’t go a day without wearing it, and so decided this was permanent and that I would now need a spare.

I searched the internet, and that is when I discovered Simply Wigs. I ordered another one, exactly the same, and since then have ordered a new one every six months or so. The service is excellent, the delivery is spot on and the packaging and little chocolate that you receive in your parcel make it very personal and special.

A few months ago, I decided that after all these years, I’d like to try on a different style. I rang up Simply Wigs, and they suggested that if I could I should come to their shop and try some on. I chose 3 from the website, booked an appointment, and went along with my husband for a second opinion.

At Simply Wigs headquarters, they were expecting me and my chosen wigs were waiting for me. They are extremely helpful and took their time helping me with the different wigs and explained to me about the different caps and sizes. I was there for quite a while and nothing was too much trouble for them. I tried them all on, along with some others and chose a new style and slightly different shade as well as buying another ‘Reese’ wig. I remember that day as we drove home feeling good and saying that I would definitely go again.

I have gone back to my original ‘Reece’ wig now as its still my favourite. I don’t mention to anyone that I wear a wig (although my family know) and that is another reason why I tend to stick to the style and shade that I am really comfortable with. I love it when I get a brand new one, but on a daily basis, I can’t tell you how good I feel about my hair style.

It’s 6 years on now, and I continue to wear my wig and I’m still getting lots of compliments.

I wear a different wig every other day and I love it I got hair but I love me some wigs

Everyone’s story is different and yet many elements are similar like the initial despair and the way we all have to eventually pluck up the courage to try a wig and then the delight and return of confidence the wig gives . Also the reaction of other people ; they nearly always just think you look as if you’ve been on holiday or found a great new hairdresser.
