Hair Loss During Menopause

Unfortunately, it isn’t uncommon for menopause and thinning hair to come hand-in-hand. As many as two-thirds of women suffer from hair thinning or hair loss during or after menopause. The reasons for this all boil down to hormonal changes and we unpack this in more detail, along with the relationship between menopause and hair loss in our previous blog post.

One of our fabulous customers, Dee has been so kind to share the story of her experience with hair loss during menopause and how she found help and support in the Simply Wigs community.

Throughout my life, I always had fine straight hair until I encountered menopause and thinning hair. During the early stages of the menopause in 2017, my front hairline receded and my parting widened. I can’t explain how much this knocked my confidence, but I became so self-conscious that I stopped going out and avoided social situations.

I eventually decided I was not going to live like this any longer. After researching many, many ‘remedies’, some of which were more expensive than the two hair enhancers and three wigs I eventually purchased, I found the excellent Simply Wigs website.

  1. Thank you so much Ellie for your thoughtful, kind comments.

I really can’t recommend Simply Wigs enough, from their excellent customer photos to the wonderful customer service staff who are immensely knowledgeable on style and colour choices.

I ordered several wigs and kept 3. I also own a couple of toppers which, if you have enough bio hair, are great to style in with your remaining hair. They are also cooler in the summer.

The style I’m wearing is Jon Renau’s Evan in Shaded Praline.
It’s a great choice for a first wig. Short, super easy to style with the Piece Out Cream and more importantly, looks natural!
Please don’t be concerned about wearing a synthetic wig/topper, they are totally realistic and really speed up getting ready in the morning. No more time spent coaxing hair into style, joy!
It took me a few trys to venture out. A quick trip to the shops was my first outing and someone approached me to ask who my hairdresser was, now that was a confidence boost.

Let me know how you get on with your choices of ‘helper hair‘ as I call it.

  2. Thank you Dee for sharing your story. I’ve been in a similar position for years and after spending lots of money on treatments, laser brushes etc – all to no avail – I’m getting more and more heartened reading all the whisper stories. I’ve struggled with increasing thinning and lifeless hair, it’s soul destroying. I always looked after my hair. I’m going to look at purchasing a wig or two. I’m sure there’ll be some trial and error – but I want my life back again with a nice head of hair, albeit a wig. Thank you xx
Ps what is that lovely style in the picture?
