Our List of Fraudulent or Scam Wig Companies

Our List of Fraudulent or Scam Wig Companies

Unfortunately, not all online stores are reputable. Over time, the UK wig market has become challenging for both legitimate wig websites and consumers, with fraudulent wig companies putting up their best fight to fool wig-wearers.

In this blog, we’ll discuss why it’s become trickier to identify scam wig companies online, how you can tell if a site is fraudulent, and some wig sites to avoid at all costs.

Why Has it Become Difficult to Identify Scam Wig Sites?

Similar prices: Many cheaper, poorer-quality wig companies have started to raise their prices to a point where they fall in the same price range as wig sellers like Simply Wigs. Ultimately, this price shift has created some confusion for customers, as suspiciously low price points used to be a key indicator of inferior products. Now, consumers can’t always judge the quality of a wig on its price alone. Furthermore, with prices being so similar, consumers often confuse higher-priced established wig companies for scammers.

Similar visuals: It has become harder to differentiate sites, especially as fraudulent ones have started mimicking the web design and images used on the best legitimate wig websites. Appearance has further blurred the lines between good and bad wig sites and increased consumers’ wariness to shop online.

What Do Scam Wig Companies Do?

Scam wig companies are deceitful groups or individuals who use the front of being a reputable wig company. Some of them look almost indistinguishable from legitimate companies.

They scam customers in a variety of ways:

  • The wrong wig is sent to the customer.
  • The wig doesn’t match the description on the website – for example, a wig advertised as real hair turns out to be synthetic.
  • The colour or style is completely different to the photo online.
  • The wig delivery is severely delayed.
  • A customer places an order, expecting the wig to arrive the following week, only to be left waiting months with no updates.
  • The wig never arrives. In these cases, the company doesn’t actually sell wigs and uses the website as a front to scam people out of money.

How to Tell Legit Wig Sites from the Fake

So, how do you know if you’re shopping online at a legitimate wig company?

The problem with fraudulent websites is that they can look so convincing when they pose as top-rated wig companies. However, there are tell-tale signs to look out for. These include:

  • Reviews

The first thing you should do is search for the company’s name, with the word ‘reviews’ – for example, ‘ewigs reviews’. Some guidance to check that reviews are real includes:

– Don’t look at reviews on the website itself. If you have any doubts about a company, make sure you check the reviews on an independent site like REVIEWS.io and Trustpilot. The company can put anything they like on their own website! For example, Ewigs has over 4,000 reviews on their website and every single one is four or five stars, but if you look at review sites, the majority are only one or two stars.

– Pay attention to negative reviews. While most sites will have some negative reviews, seeing what people are complaining about can give you a better idea of what you’re dealing with. Look for trends among negative reviews – if lots of reviewers found they never received a product, or received a different product than they expected, it’s not an isolated incident.

– Pictures and videos. We love seeing our beautiful customers wearing their creations and we encourage people to take pictures in their wigs to send to us or attach to reviews. Scam companies aren’t usually likely to take the time to find homemade footage or pictures, and many scam sites use poorly rendered images (so they might be blurry or look stretched).

  • Contact

Can you find any contact information about the page? Often, scam wig companies will just have a contact form, and maybe a phone number or email address. Reputable wig sellers should have a full address available (which companies pretending to be based in the UK won’t have), and often, you’ll be able to contact them via social media as well.

  • Unrealistic bargains or deals

A good rule of thumb when shopping online is ‘if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is’ – if you’ve found a wig that retails at £200 being sold for £20, there’s likely there’s something else at play!

  • Poor spelling and grammar

We’re not suggesting that you run every website through a grammar checker before you buy, but if the content on the site is stilted, unclear or poorly written, that should wave a red flag.

  • Unsecure website

When you click on a new website, your browser will tell you if the site is secure or not with a little padlock symbol. If the site is not secure, you should avoid spending any money with the company, as your information will not be safe!

  • Check on Companies House

If you’re  unsure if a company is legitimate, you can always check with Companies House. All limited companies in the UK must be registered with Companies House and it will provide you with the director’s name(s) and the company’s history. If they’re not registered, that means that they don’t have a physical shop or office in the UK.

  • WIG QUALITY

If you have bought a wig and you are unsure about its quality, be aware of a chemical smell. This smell appears when the natural hair colour has been stripped out of the wig in order for it to be chemically dyed to a different range of colours. The stripping of the colour also strips away the hair quality, leaving you with a substandard wig.

Back in 2014, Emma appeared on Radio 4’s consumer affairs programme, You & Yours, to discuss the trend of disreputable wig companies trading online to UK customers. Listen as Emma shares a customer story and some caring and helpful advice, explaining how non-UK wig companies are cloning trustworthy wig websites and using .co.uk addresses to fool customers into thinking they are reliable websites.

What to Look for in Reliable Wig Companies

So what are the green flags? What can you look for in a company that is worth your custom?

  • Largely positive reviews: although almost every company will have some mixed reviews, the majority of reviews should be positive.
  • Clear communication: multiple lines of communication, a physical address and opening hours suggest that the company is actually based in the UK and can answer queries.
  • Active social media: not every company has social media but an active presence on social media means it is likely someone is maintaining the accounts. They also offer another line of communication.

Scam Wig Companies to Avoid

IMPORTANT:  These companies have been reported to us as being scams. Please let us know if you have encountered these companies or any others so we can continue supporting other wig-wearers.

Customers have pointed out these companies to be aware of:
  • Ciciwigs.com
  • Ewigs.co.uk
  • Hairlinewigsuk.com
  • Hawigs.ca
  • Heywigs.com
  • Kimwigs.co.uk
  • Lightinthebox.com
  • Lytinroopwigs.com
  • Minewig.com
  • Morojowig.com
  • Rewigs.co.uk
  • Shopwig.co.uk
  • Topwigs.co.uk
  • Urhair.co.uk
  • Wigsbuy.com
  • Wigsdo.com
  • Wigsell.co.uk
  • Wigshoponline.co.uk
  • Wigshow.co.uk

You should also be cautious when buying from non-wig-specific marketplaces, like eBay, Shein or Temu – you might find some great deals, but just remember that you’ll get what you pay for! If you’re looking for a reliable, high-quality wig, you’re not likely to find it on these sites.

Final Advice on Avoiding Scam Wig Companies

1. Check the URL

We have also been made aware that there are several companies using the Simply Wigs name in their advertising. Always make sure you’re shopping on our official site to avoid being caught out! Make sure the URL is correct before entering any information.

Check out the listings below; the first is from our official site, but the second is a different site using our name. We’ve highlighted the URLs in red so you know what to look for!

A screenshot of an advert for ShopWig - the headline says 'Simply Wigs UK Online' but the highlighted URL says 'shopwig.co.uk'.

2. Do your research

When you’re browsing cheap ‘UK-based’ wig sites, be cautious and do your research before you buy any new products. Every week, we talk to heartbroken people who these companies have scammed, and we are angry and saddened that they are still allowed to trade.

3. Spread the word!

As many scam wig companies are not based in the UK, we are unable to prosecute them. However, if Trading Standards cannot protect people who may be shopping at a very vulnerable time in their lives, then it’s time we spread the word ourselves!

We ask that you please repost this through your own social channels. Together, we can get the word out that we will not be duped by these dishonourable companies anymore.

Our team knows that buying a wig can be an emotional and highly personal process. The UK has many highly-rated, quality, legitimate wig companies that will endeavour to make the process as easy and painless as possible.

When it comes down to it, if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of a company, you’ll be safer not spending your money with them. If you have any questions about this topic, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. The Simply Wigs team are always here to help.

  1. I returned a wig from Rewigs to the address on the package in which I received it since they wouldn’t give me an address where to return it. I sent them a message since I never got a refund and only after I told them where I returned it they then said I returned it to the wrong address and gave me the address where to return it I told them I couldn’t return it to the address they gave me because I had already returned it! I never heard back from them of course. I tried to get a refund through Paypal but they declined.

Now I can no longer attach to their e mail address. 9. I forgot to add once again wig received was nothing like wig advertised. Every day I would email them they would ask for photos of the wig and then say “I miss read the advert” whatever then they offered 40%refund HELL NO! I had to go through PayPal for and in the end I did get all my money back with the help of PayPal.

  10. I also ordered a wig from SLITTLECUTE .COM and the manufacture is Guangzhou Dangu Trading Co., Ltd. Room A112, Building B, No. 8, Fenggang Road, Baiyun District, Guangzhou.
Just all the other the wigs that were sent to me were not what they advertised and I have been going back ans forth with email and the what to offer 12% of my money back.
I wish I new about this before now.

  11. qpl wigs omg based in China advertising lace from human hair. Plastic disgusting quality hair with no lace front avoid at all costs!!

  12. They didn’t give me an address where to return the wig either so I spent $23 and returned it to the return address on the package I received the wig from. I waited to hear from them about my refund and told them where I sent the wig because they didn’t give me an address where I should return it. They only then responded and told me I returned it to the incorrect address!! I paid with Paypal and filed a claim but they told me since I returned it to the incorrect address that I lost the case!

  13. I’m trying to return a wig but cannot find the address to send it to. Can you help. I agree I would never wear this in public.

  14. Add T.C. Belment. Poor quality, sold as human hair, looked like Barbie hair, and then sent me 2. I had to return them to China, but didn’t want to deal with those people!

  15. Yea Luna wigs just got me also…i ordered 4 wigs and even paid extra for faster shipping 3-7 days….welllll it ended up taking 14 days and when i saw them i know y it took so long…..clearly they traveled back to 1970 to purchase these wigs….they are NOTHING like the pics i ordered n they smelled funny too..lesson learned

  16. I was scammed by Luna wigs. The wigs were not even close to what I orderd not even color. They sent wigs I wouldn’t wear for Halloween. They refused to send me the return address. There should be a law against this. I work hard for my money

  17. I purchased a Hair Topper in July2019 using PayPal no help from them. Just want my money back. I have tried to Contact Belmont several times and comes in as Mail failure. So disappointed

  18. Its more a question of checking scam and review sites and youtube reviews and not being duped by fake pictures…. Most of them do the same wigs but at different prices. do they have a showroom can you telephone them on a UK number.

Pay via paypal or credit card….

  19. That’s where the piece of **** I got came from. Had ads blocked on Facebook. Did get a refund of $8.40 through paypal.

  20. I totally agree with you. Worst wig EVER!!! I threw it in the garbage the day I got it. I waited almost 6 months for this piece of crap!

  21. One clue is to reverse image the wig shown. Sometimes they prove to be hairstyles not wigs. Also, if its a picture of Beyonce or Jessica Alba or someone, clearly Beyonce did not buy a cheap wig off the internet.

  22. I just got ripped off completely by luna wig.com by paying 43.00 for 2 wigs I never received and keep trying to contact the company only 2 be road blocked with no help and no response plz help me retrieve my money back…i used my ssi debit card 4 payment and am constantly being rail road to pay pal services that i didnt use

  23. Pay Pal declined my claim saying that I didn’t have proof I returned it. I have the receipt from the post office saying where and when I returned it!! Once the decision is made by Pay Pal there is nothing you can do.
Here is what happened: I returned my wig from ReWigs.com and I had asked the company where to return it as I wanted to return it before the expiration date. They never responded so I sent the wig back to the address from where I received it. I emailed them again and only AFTER I told them where I sent it did they tell me where I SHOULD have sent it and said I didn’t have permission to return it either.

  24. Oh crap! Recently ordered one! Sick feeling for being so stupid, and not researching first. One was wigsbuy the other Kami
Hard to figure out what the company is.Goes by multiple names. ?

  25. If you paid by credit card, get in touch with them and you’ll hopefully get your money back.

  26. Oh my god!!! Same here! This company is a total sham. They advertised as Raquel Welch Straight up with a twist. It was 100% NOT. A cheap fake. I am currently fighting with them & my next recourse is reporting to credit card as fraudulent charges..

  27. They did the same to me. Sent me a wig i didnt order and the offered me 20% back instead of a full refund and to keep this mop they sent me. Im so angry and upset that ppl are allowed to take money and send u a clump of shit and nothing can be done. They will not send me a proper address to return the wig. This is just wrong on so many levels. We trust this folks to gives us the product we paid for and ordered but they send u whatever and still keep the money. Thats stealing as far as im concerned .

  28. Miyawigs wouldn’t even respond to my emails although i sent lots ro them to complain, about the crappy wig i received

  29. Good luck with that. I was offered seventy-dollars for an eighty-dollar wig and never got my refund!

  30. Yes this company is a total scam. I bought a topper that was supposed to be human hair and what I got was doll hair. I opened a resolution with PayPal since the company now is not responding. I sent PP the actual link of what was advertised and pics of what I actually got. This should be an open and shut case.

  31. Just wondering if you paid via paypal. I ordered a wig from Urwigs(Top Hair) and like everyone else realised it was a scam and received a wig nothing like I ordered. After many emails back and forth I went to the paypal resolution centre. The company continued to email me with another ‘offer’ like keep the wig and get £20 back – it cost £82. I stopped corresponding with them and only used the resolution centre. Luckily, paypal awarded me the full refund and although I had to send the wig back to China, at a cost of £13.00, I have just received the full refund. I hope this helps anyone who paid via paypal..

  32. good luck in Paypal helping you i bought a wig that was supposed to be custom made from HOWIG.CO.Uk a wig that was nothing like i ordered came from China customs declaration said it was worth 14 usd i paid £71.00 for a piece of crap i wanted to return it to them then got bombarded by emails from them as cancer patient losing my hair was bad enough without the hassle i recieved from this company cheap rubbish was all it is and paypal denied my claim twice!!!

  33. I was also scammed by Louise Wigs. Ordered a very light blonde wig and 2 weeks later received a very dark brown wig. They actually admitted in an e mail that the wig was “Misrepresented” on line. I have been trying to get an address to send it back and I continue to get automated messages offering me some part of the cost of the wig to just keep it. We are up to a 50% discount. I want the entire amount that I spent credited to me- WARNING! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM EVER!

  34. I have just been wig scammed by Louisewigs.com also known as miyawigs. Company is posting pictures of designer wigs on there site and what you receive is a knockoff wig from China. Style and color not even close. I am going to try my best to get full refund last reply they offered me 3 dollars. No way!! Hope Paypal will be with me on this.

  35. Total scam. Company called rosewig. Website is wwwmitawig.com. Claim they are located in Great Britain. Not true. Product is a piece of crap. Came damaged and am unable to return it or get a refund.

  36. I ordered from REWIGS and they gave me a tracking number which is different from the tracking number I was given on my post office receipt. They say they don’t have the tracking number that I gave them!

  37. These fake companies ought to ashamed of their doing… If I cannot buy it out the store I will not buy it at all especially any type of hair… I’ve lost all trust….

  38. I finally received the wig from rodewigs and it was horrible.. It looked nothing like the picture…it was horrible it looked like a scratch pad for a cat….

  39. I purchcased a poor excuse of a wig from Howig.co.uk through PayPal who decided in favour of the scammer – I sent the item tracked to China as requested by PayPal who closed case regardless. Now my messages are being ignored. I ended up disputing the transaction through my bank as paid using debit card. Very disappointed in PayPal who claim they have no issue with this company – seller name on PayPal was Top Hair Inc. I wasn’t listened to at all and basically called a liar. As long as PayPal get their money they are more than happy to turn a blind eye at the expense not only of their credibility but of their customers trust thinking they are safe and protected if something goes wrong. I wasn’t protected!

  40. Exactly the same for me with Rewigs I ordered 2 they look nothing like the picture and won’t refund me ignoring all contact I’m furious!

  41. I had a terrible accident after which I lost a lot of my hair. It took an awful lot of back and forth thinking and I finally gave in and purchased a wig from urhair.co.uk . I was told from the beginning that I would have to “wait patiently” for my “custom colour and cut”. Sure enough, 4 weeks later the wig arrived. I had used Paypal. When I opened the package, the chemical smell was overwhelming. (Still is). The colour is abominable and the cut is far from what it looked like in the picture. Although it says it’s 100% human Remy hair it looks 100% fake. I tried to give it to my dog but she wouldn’t have any of it. She sneezed, coughed and walked away. Wonder if any charity shop will have it? PS: the wig may have been cheap but it was an expensive mistake.

  42. I ordered wig and it looks horrible
I have really want my money back and I definitely have learned my lesson. Them folks from China and Brazil are not dependable

  43. I agree. Look at the terrible reviews. I also left comments. They need to be reported.
