September is Alopecia Awareness month and Simply Wigs hosted a Charity Wig Bank Day on Wednesday 14th September 2022, to raise funds for Alopecia UK (AUK). The mission of AUK is to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia and is a small national charity working to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia through aims of Support, Awareness and Research.
Simply Wigs welcomed the charity leaders Sue, Amy and Naomi into the Simply Wigs family, and we are incredibly proud to say it was a great success. Not only because of the funds raised, but because the day was such a joy to be part of. It was a busy day with over 60 people visiting our shop, and we are delighted to say that over 110 wigs were purchased from our Wig Bank! The day was filled with emotion, friendships, community and ultimately a deep feeling of coming together.

Every attendee left with a Simply Wigs goody bag, some fabulous wig bank purchases, as well as a feeling of being supported. We are delighted to share below some of the lovely feedback from the AUK community who came to see us. It really was a lovely day to be part of, and we are super proud to have been able to help so many people on the day.
What did the AUK attendees think?
So many reasons I wanted to attend this event, I wanted to find out where Simply Wigs were situated, and I wanted to meet in person with people from Alopecia Uk who I have talked to online and people from Simply wigs who I have talked to on the phone. The venue was 46 mins drive from where I am, which was doable for me, I don’t go far these days not being too mobile some days. I haven’t received my actual wig prescription this year, it is overdue and I was getting ready for a new wig as the one I have and wear most days is showing signs of wear and going frizzy. The chance to get a new wig at such a discounted price and also support Alopecia Uk at the same time was too good a thing to pass up. I haven’t worked for a few years, so being a 1 wage earning household, it was a blessing. I am totally thrilled with my new wigs and new styles, and very grateful indeed.
The staff were amazing helpful friendly non-judgemental put you at ease straight away and the owner was so lovely and uplifting.
The whole experience was amazing. The staff were helpful to meet others with alopecia and talk about things first time ever seen out without a headpiece first time felt comfortable and at ease with looks came home feeling uplifted and valued

I loved the chance of trying different styles on, it was such a different and pleasurable experience from how my prescription wig is gained. I loved how friendly everyone was, Sue my allocated wig lady was so helpful and amazing at styling the wigs with her hands. I think it was fantastic to have people from Alopecia Uk who of course are instantly recognisable, I think that was a brilliant thing to do, it just puts people at their ease straight away and you sort of forget that you are walking into a new place. I just totally enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you for my goody bag and voucher.
The best advice I have ever received, lovely lady!
Would of loved a bit more Simply Wigs shop time maybe to have a browse a little at styles they sell, hats, products, getting information etc, I understand it might be difficult, I didn’t realise how busy the shop would be with people!

September is a busy time for Alopecia UK, as they are working incredibly hard to raise awareness and funds throughout the month. We hope that Simply Wigs helped to play a part in their mission, and we fully support their passionate efforts to continue raising awareness.
