December? Christmas? Where has the year gone? It’s December and Alopecia UK have done so much this year. I have listed the things that we have done since my last post in July! Alopecia UK Achievements:
1. September: ‘AUK’s Big Weekend 2016’ Big success
Alopecia UK held its 3rd annual ‘Big Weekend’ in Glasgow on 2nd – 4th September. Approximately 200 people gathered for the conference part of the event on the Saturday, listening to speakers, participating in workshops, getting information about products and services from exhibitors and sharing experiences with others with alopecia

2. November: Hairless Harri
Hairless Harri is a colourful picture book aimed at children aged four to seven. It follows the story of a young girl called Harri who’s finding it difficult to make friends at her new school. Everyone thinks she’s a bit odd because she doesn’t have any hair. But Harri isn’t lonely for long because the children soon realise that she’s kind and fun – and it really doesn’t matter if she has hair or not.
3. November: Alopecia & BBC4 documentary with photographer Rankin
Carly Barratt has alopecia and was selected to be one of four individuals to take part in a BBC4 documentary that seeks to tackle attitudes to beauty. The documentary is presented by artist Alison Lapper and features international photographer, Rankin.
4. November: Alopecia UK Christmas Cards now on sale!
We’re delighted to have a fantastic Alopecia UK Christmas card for the 2016 festive season. This is the first time we’ve been able to offer Alopecia UK cards and we LOVE the design.The Christmas card was designed by Mandy Eaton-MacLean, who we met at our ‘Big Weekend’ event in Glasgow in September. Mandy has alopecia areata and has also been working hard on some illustrations for us for a storybook aimed at 3-7 year olds which we hope to launch early next year.
5. December: JAK Inhibitors Research – Dr Susan Holmes
There continues to be much media coverage about the research studies taking place in the USA into the use of JAK inhibitors as a treatment for alopecia areata. We asked dermatologist Dr Susan Holmes, who presented at our Big Weekend event earlier in the year, for a summary on the current research that is happening
