Caring for Headwear for Hair Loss

Headwear for hair loss can be a beautiful and uplifting accessory option for ladies experiencing hair loss who may not want to purchase a full wig.

With so many lovely styles to choose from, ladies can find headwear that makes them feel comfortable and confident. Just like with a wig, caring for any headwear will help to keep your accessory in the best possible condition. This guide offers some top tips on how to look after your headwear and stay looking fabulous!

Headwear Materials

Headwear for hair loss comes in a variety of wonderful styles and fabrics. From comfortable cotton to soft silk, each fabric offers something beneficial to the wearer. Check out our fabric guide for more information on the different headwear fabrics.

It’s extremely important to take notice of the label on each piece of headwear. Many have care instructions that are specific to the headwear item, and this will confidently inform you of how best to care for your headwear!

Washing Headwear

Some headwear is suitable for machine washing, which is beneficial for those looking to save time! If this is the case, make sure you are using a gentle wash that won’t damage your lovely headwear.

Many washing machines have a ‘delicate’ wash option which will help to protect your headwear during the washing process. Anything too hot or harsh can damage certain materials. Make sure your wash is on a low temperature and try to only wash similar colours together.

Other headwear for hair loss isn’t suitable for machine washing and requires hand washing. Simply combine these items with some detergent in a solution of cold water. Delicately move your headwear around with your hands, ensuring that it is mixing with the detergent without being too rough.

Drying HeadwearDrying Headwear

Drying headwear is similar to that of drying a wig as it requires care and patience. You don’t want your lovely headscarf shrinking, after all! Some headwear care instructions may show that your accessory is suitable for machine drying, whereas others will state that it is not.

When drying, make sure that you get rid of any excess water, enough that your headwear isn’t dripping wet. Do this by gently squeezing the material between your hands. You can then place the headwear on a towel, and place another towel on top. Press the towel with your hands to remove excess water. We then recommend that you allow your headwear to airdry by keeping it lying flat on a towel and out of direct sunlight.

Storing Headwear For Hair LossStoring Headwear For Hair Loss

Once your headwear is fully dry, it’s just as important to make sure that you store it in the right way. Recommended storage depends on the type of headwear you own. If you have a lovely headscarf, these can be folded over a regular hanger and stored in your wardrobe. Some turbans and hats have elastic in them, and it’s important that this elastic isn’t stretched out for long periods of time whilst not being worn. To prevent this, don’t place your headwear on a wig stand or head-stand. Instead, lay it flat somewhere safe and dry.

Stain RemovalStain Removal

Stains are everyone’s worst nightmare. But no matter how hard we try to avoid them, they sometimes get the better of us! Don’t fear, though, as there are a few tactics you can try.

1) Try to gently dab the area and take off as much of the substance as possible. Sometimes it will only take this and a little water to remove the stain.

2) For tough stains, apply liquid washing detergent to the stained area. Gently rub it in and allow it to work its magic for a few minutes. Then, remove the detergent with cold water and hope that the stain has washed away with it!

3) If you’re not sure about trying to remove the stain yourself, get your headwear dry-cleaned – a professional should be familiar with the material and be able to wash it out safely.

Either way, act fast for the best results.
