Childhood Cancer Awareness – September 2018

Childhood Cancer Awareness – September 2018

Each week in the UK and Ireland, more than 30 children are diagnosed with cancer. Two out of ten children will not survive this disease.

Each September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month helps to highlight the impact of cancer on young people and their family. This, in turn, helps to protect more children, improve the lives of young cancer patients and bring hope to them and their families through ground breaking research.

Symbol for childhood – The Gold Ribbon

The internationally recognised symbol for childhood cancer is the gold ribbon. Throughout September, we encourage everyone to wear a gold ribbon to help raise awareness and to show their support for young cancer patients and their families.

#WearTheRibbon

Wearing a Childhood Cancer Awareness Month ribbon not only symbolises support for those affected by cancer, it also helps to support and drive important change .

How can you help?

go-gold

Individuals, schools and workplaces across the UK are joining Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and ‘Going Gold.’ As well as raising funds to support their vital work, you’ll be helping them to raise awareness of childhood cancer. Gold is the international colour of childhood cancer awareness, with many supporters choosing to wear a gold ribbon during September.  ‘Go gold’ is on Friday 25 September, but if you can’t hold your event on that day, please choose a day in September that works for you!

There are many ways you could help to raise funds on your ‘Go Gold’ day. A few favourite ideas are below!

At work…
Dress-down day: Ask for donations of £1 in exchange for dressing down (or dressing up!) at work for the day. Go Gold! Encourage everyone to wear an item of gold (or yellow) clothing!

At school…
Non-uniform day: Ask for donations of £1 in exchange for wearing your own clothes to school. Go Gold! Encourage everyone to wear an item of gold (or yellow) clothing!
