Shirley said to come with me. She took me to a room at the back of the Salon and there they were.
There were lots of wigs on headstands. Wow, it was wonderful! She tried quite a few different styles on me and instead of going home upset and worrying about how long my hairstyle would last, I now would never have to worry about my hair again.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve never had a bad hair day ever. I’ve been lots of different colours & have even dared to go longer. Not too long, but just collar length.
My family know and my close friends who I trust. There are some friends I’ve told, and some friends who just don’t need to know.
I could have written much of your story myself.
Baby fine, thin hair. All my life. Daily washing and blow drying. Invested a fortune in ‘products’ that promised much, but delivered little. I dreaded getting caught in the rain, and looking like an actual drowned rat!
After the menopause, it got thinner and thinner. Large bald spots appeared, which were impossible to cover. My husband started to comment on it, as he’s tall and looks down upon it, he could see my scalp quickly getting sunburnt in hot weather.
My head is small, and my hair so thin, I couldn’t even find a hat to fit me, they all just fell over my eyes!
I started looking online at hair loss solutions, mesh systems etc., but I could not afford them.
Happily, I stumbled upon Simply Wigs, and plucked up the courage to try a ‘Topper’ at first. I could not believe the difference it made to both my appearance and my self confidence!
I soon moved on to wearing a full wig, and I’ve never looked back. I have loads. All different colours and styles.
I tell everyone. I don’t care who knows! My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.
Thanks for sharing your story. You look fab, that style and colour really suit you.
I love the style what type hair is it? How much does it cost and where did you purchased?
Inspring story!
I feel your pain regarding fine hair and not a lot of it. I was never blessed with thick hair, styles just last 30 minutes on me, then its back to flat.
As I have got older it’s just got finer and always looks ‘scruffy’ and unkempt no matter what style or length.
I haven’t worn a wig before, but I have ordered 2 wigs and can’t wait. I have a feeling I will end up with loads :).
Great story and you look great.
You look just great! Thank you for sharing
What a lovely story Alison….. the style you have chosen is exactly what I would like… It looks so very natural and a great colour – not a bit like a wig…… what is it called if you don’t mind me asking…….
Well done for sharing your story. I have alopecia and my hair got thinner and thinner and someone I used to work with told me where she went. I think I know the Shirley you mentioned in your story as she has helped me too until recently.
Alison: top marks for sharing. Your hair looks gorgeous and you’d never know!
Your comment about bad hair days being a thing of the past really chimes with me. No matter how tired or ticked off I feel, I know my hair looks fabulous. My epiphany came when I was in my mid 40s, although my hair had always been baby fine, I had clouds of it, originally.
I wear Christine headwear indoors; as I buy human hair, I need it to last and of course, that does the trick. My lovely hubby calls me ‘her indoors’ or ‘hair outdoors’ depending on my look LOL
Best to you
Love the style on you. My hair started going thin years ago think mainly because have under active thyroid then mother nature kicked in. And I wear a wig if I going out. Have told one or two shop assistants that have one when I clothes shops and they say that they couldn’t tell I had one on.
This could be my story Alison. Decent hair certainly gives you confidence, and I had lost all of my confidence over the years. I started wearing wigs and hats just to feel “pretty”, as my hair was so thin and flyaway and made me look really old. I still feel slightly conscious wearing my wigs, and would love to just be able to wear them with pride. Am working on it…..
You look lovely and your wig looks very natural.
It was great to hear your story Alison. I’m so pleased you found the solution. You look absolutely fabulous in this photo! May I ask what colour the wig is? It is lovely.
Best wishes Elaine
This is a very similar story to my own Alison….you look beautiful and certainly you could never tell that you wear hair!
Happy Christmas to all of us and to the SW Team xx
You look fabulous, Alison! And your story of wispy, fine hair that needed doing every day with tongs and hairspray etc is exactly my story too. I lacked so much confidence until 10 years ago, when I discovered Simply Wigs. I’ve never looked back since then and I hope you won’t either. Happy Christmas! Love, Hilary.
Alison’s story is exactly like mine. Thin, fine hair which embarrassed me my whole life. Looking like an alien in the morning until I washed, blow dried, lacquered etc. Only close friends know I wear a wig so it’s difficult to change styles as neighbours etc. would catch on that I’m wearing a wig. It was good to read from Alison as I know I’m not the only person in this position. She looks lovely in her wig too x
Oh Alison, I know exactly what you’re talking about. My hair has always been fine but after chemo and medication plus my age my hair is worse than Boris Johnson’s. I wore wigs when I was completely bald after chemo and I have been wearing hair pieces for years after. I’ve just bought a lovely wig to wear for Christmas and I may just go on wearing it if I look as beautiful as you do in yours. X
You look great, Alison. What an inspiring story about a very kind and understanding hairdresser.
Happy Christmas to all the team at Simply Wigs for being supportive all year. xx
