Hello, I’d like to tell you my story. After redundancy, losing my lovely parents, a heart procedure, breaking my shoulder and discovering I had advanced osteoporosis, the final blow was developing Alopecia Universalis.

I slowly lost my eyelashes and eyebrows, and then one Saturday, in the shower, it was like an out-of-this-world experience, all my hair came off in my hands!

I had to put all my auburn hair in the bathroom bin, I was distraught! But hey-ho, that was four years ago. I was lucky, I seemed to accept it after the initial horror (after all, I could still walk and talk?) and life is bright.

I got a new job after my hair loss and at 60, have just been offered another! And you know what? Simply Wigs has played a huge part in my journey. I’ve always managed to buy really natural-looking wigs and people don’t know I’m wearing one until I tell them! I usually have real hair wigs (I am wearing the Cindy human hair by Gisela Mayer, in the photo) but I’m just about to try a synthetic one after reading the recent holiday wig-care article.

The staff are so lovely and very helpful and encouraging, and that’s just buying online. Thank you, Simply Wigs! x

Love from, Louise x

  1. Thank you Claire and Margaret for your lovely comments, so lovely of you to post them! Phyllis… I’m with you, this hot weather is a trial when wearing a wig, uncomfortable to say the least. Sit it out, I’m sure cooler weather will be here soon?

  2. Louise – I have been so pleased to read your comments because I have seen your photograph on the Simply Wigs website and always thought how beautiful you look with the most natural looking wig and now I can put a name to the photograph. You look amazing!

  3. I also, have lost all my body hair, very quickly. Alopecia Universalis. I had my eyebrows bladed, look very natural. Use eyeliner, no one notices I don’t have eyelashes. Drippy nose can be a problem. Tried steroid nose spray, without success, so I’m still experimenting with that. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS A SWEATY SCALP. I have tried all of the products designed to eliminate this (caps, headbands, Headliners) all to no avail. I am absolutely dreading summer coming. Anyone out there for any suggestions.

  4. Louise your human hair wig in the photograph is gorgeous, I would never ever have guessed that you hadn’t grown it yourself and I think to me it suits your complexion perfectly, you can be 100% confident in this hair you look very natural , I love it on you

  5. Oh my goodness… thank you ALL for your lovely, encouraging comments! I wish you all lots of love and happiness; stay strong and believe in yourselves, you are wonderful women. Louise x

  6. Louise, after reading about you all it makes me feel lucky. You look amazing and I love the way you look at life. I haven’t had the horror of losing all of my hair, that must have been mortifying. My hair has just gone so thin that it’s embarrassing going out. But I got a wig and I can feel ME again. They are amazing just like you ??

  7. OMG !the same thing for me , total hair loss eyelashes. Eye brows ,all bodily hair , even in my nose and ears ! I have been wearing simply wigs for around 21 years now . As you say once we get over the fact that it’s not life threatening , we just pull up our big girls knickers and get on with life , you look amazing ?

  8. Hi Louise, you look lovely. How do you get by without eyelashes and eyebrows, that’s what gets to me the most. I have been without hair totally everywhere now for about 18 months, now 61 years, not sure what has caused it. Paula x

  9. Louise you look simply stunning! I can usually spot a wig but I would never have guessed in a million years that you are wearing one x

  10. Dear Louise:
Oh those stressful life events! But you look great. After having an elaborate “up-do” as a bridesmaid, mine came out in handfuls when I dismantled the hairdresser’s work – yes, so scary when it fills the bin. It regrew enough to manage without a wig. Fast forward 20 years and, after my father’s death, loss of a boyfriend and redundancy, out came everything else. This time no recovery. The only question is, when do I decide to go grey? I too am so grateful I adapted and got on with life. All the best to you.

  11. Your auburn-tinted wig looks gorgeous and so natural! It suits you perfectly and I wouldn’t have guessed it was a wig. Well done for getting through all that trauma and smiling on into your future. Such an uplifting story – thank you, Louise.

  12. My heart goes out to you Louise! What a truly terrible time you went through. I totally relate to the hair wash experience. Mine came out due to chemotherapy so at least I was expecting it but had no idea it would be so dramatic and sudden. Your wig looks very natural. I’ve also gone for real hair wigs and people who don’t know I’ve been ill don’t even notice. I get lots of positive comments from strangers about my hair which always makes me laugh!! Mine is growing back now but only a few millimetres and I honestly am tempted to just wear wigs forever now!! It’s so easy in the mornings!. Good luck to you in all that you do.

  13. Your story is so similar to mine : all happening following major stressful life events.
Took a while to discover Simply Wigs but since doing so ive never looked back
    Well done Louise xxx

  14. Louise, thank you for your very positive take on a story that is anything but. You must have been devastated and those of us that lost our hair gradually will really understand the dreadful shock of sudden complete loss. However, your message is one of positivity which is crucial in managing negative situations. I wish you every success in your new job and, just for the record, you look really beautiful! Margaret
