If you are still new to wearing wigs or if it’s the first time you are travelling with your wig, the prospect may seem a little daunting. There are lots of wig products and accessories that are often used at home in order to care for your wig properly and it’s hard to know what to take with you on holiday too.
We understand that packing everything you need for a holiday can be a challenging as it is, so it’s important to know what are the must-have wig products to keep your wig looking fabulous in the sun. This blog post explores how to pack a wig for your upcoming winter holiday. Or perhaps you are already thinking of your summer hols. Anything to get us away from this cold January weather!
How to Pack a Wig for Travel
In an ideal world, it would be great if you could take everything you use at home with you when travelling with your wig. However with luggage space and weight allowances getting smaller, taking everything can often be impractical.
If you do have the space to place your wig on a wig stand or styling head and put in your suitcase, then this will help your wig to keep its shape and style. However, another easy way to preserve your wig is to simply place a hairnet around it and place it into a large Ziploc bag before packing into your suitcase.
Wig Products to Pack in your Suitcase
Now you know how you are going to pack your wig, it’s time to pack the necessities you will need to keep it looking fabulous once you get to your dream destination. One accessory you may find extremely useful is a compact portable wig stand. This product will hold your wig shape when you’re not wearing it and also help you with styling. They are collapsible so they don’t take up a lot of room in your case, which is always a bonus (and leaves you space for extra shoes)!
Just like when you are at home, wigs require some extra care to keep them looking gorgeous for longer. Taking a couple of wig products to help you do this is great for keeping your wig looking and feeling fresh whilst on holiday. Make sure you pack your chosen essentials, including wig brushes and wig attachments such as tape, clips or a wig grip headband.
A top tip is to take a couple of head scarves. You may not be planning on wearing these at all but in case of windy days or if you are doing any sporting activities, they may prove extremely useful.
Going through Security at the Airport
You’re now at the airport, you’ve packed everything you need and are feeling excited to be on route and finally on your holiday! However, you still need to get through security, the moment that many women dread when wearing a wig to travel in. There really is no need to worry.
Here at Simply Wigs, we regularly get asked the question, ‘Will my wig clips set the beeper off?” In our experience and in the collective experience of our community, we have certainly not heard of any scenarios, where this is the case.
Wearing a Wig On a Plane
If you have a long haul flight ahead of you, you may not want to sit or sleep in your wig for an extended period of time. A great tip is to take your wig bag or box with you into the bathroom, as well as your headscarf and do a quick change in there.
Alternatively, you could opt for a stylish turban for the entire flight as they offer full coverage and warmth – perfect for a night flight. Our guide to headwear for hair loss takes a look at turbans as well as head scarves and hats to help you find the right headwear choice that works for you.
During your holiday
You’ve arrived at your dream destination and have all the tools you need to keep your wig looking fabulous whilst out and about exploring! Caring for your wig whilst away travelling follows the same washing and styling process as when you would be at home. If you don’t have time to give your wig much TLC whilst away, spraying your wig with wig conditioning spray will keep your wig well-nourished and revitalised (minimum effort required) so you can focus on relaxing during your well-deserved break.
The main thing to remember is that you enjoy yourself and have a great time. Wearing a wig helps women to look and feel fabulous wherever they may be and our wonderful wig community love to share their experiences to support women and make them feel comfortable with whatever look they choose to go for. Wherever it is you are heading, we hope you have a fabulous time.
I take an ‘ older ‘ wig for sunbathing in the day and keep my newer wig for going out at night . Tbh Im not really bothered what people think ….as long as I feel good and confident they can think what they want !
Very interesting for me as I am shortly travelling to Florida. Thank you. Can the sun damage my wig? Can’t wear a hat on top. It’s going to be warm anyway.
