I knew my hair was thinning

I knew my hair was thinning

About six months after giving birth to my son, I knew my hair was thinning, and I was initially told it was hormonal and post-natal.

However, a small bald patch appeared behind my right ear and I was in total denial. Over the weeks the patch got bigger and bigger and my hair came out in big clumps, I was determined to not wear a wig and was convinced it would grow back, so for the majority of the time I wore a baseball cap.

I was then referred to a dermatologist, and it was confirmed as alopecia totalis. But then the worst happened, I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes. I began to feel like a total freak, people staring at me and having that pity look and I was often asked if I had cancer.

I tried all sorts of random suggestions and treatments, but nothing worked, I continued wearing hats and refused to wear a wig.

In 1994 I became pregnant with my daughter, and not long into the pregnancy, something amazing happened, my eyelashes and eyebrows grew back, hope at last I thought! But alas, that is where the re-growth ended but lucky enough I still have them today!

So, I continued to wear hats untill my daughter was around a year old. In 1996 my dad proposed to my step mum and this was a game changer for me, as there was no way I wanted to be the bald daughter on his wedding photos.

Shane wig Rene of Paris

I have been wearing wigs ever since, in 2021 my daughter got married and I found my most favourite wig of all it is the Shane wig from Rene of Paris in the colour Pastel Rainbow – R. Since then I have had so many lovely comments.

Love to you all,

  1. What an encouraging testimony! Your “Shane” looks lovely on you! Thanks for sharing! Rebecca

  2. Hi Michelle
I think your story mimics what all of us think when we start losing our hair that there’s no way I’m wearing a wig! But what a revelation when you take the plunge, not only with the choice available but also with how much self confidence you gain. You look so glamorous in your Shane wig. Thanks to all at Simply Wigs for helping all your customers. Merry Xmas to you all.

    Love from Tricia
