So my journey began in 1983, I started to pull my hair out, couldn’t stop, and it had to be by the root so the whole follicle came out.
I was in hospital at the time and the pile of hair by my bed grew daily.
As I got older I disguised the patches by literally dying my scalp to darken it, I did the comb-over.
I have found that shaving my hair off and wearing a fabulous wig is the best way to wear my wig.
But now, I am often stopped in the street by total strangers who comment on my gorgeous hair which is fabulous, then I tell them its a wig and they usually say “OMG, I’m sorry you’re ill”
They can’t understand why people choose to wear a wig until I explain how easy it is to change your style and your colour. Then they’re “oooohhhh maybe I’ll try it”
I LOVE MY WIGS,
GAIL
xx
I dampen the hair ony wigs to give them a gel look. Topping up as the day goes on..sometimes I use moose to give a longer lasting effect but this way I have to wash it more..I like the duller non shinny look..hope this helps!
I have the Tori Wig too. Yours looks fabulous and much longer than mine. Does it come in different lengths do you know??
Thank you for sharing your story; although my hair just fell out without any assistance I do share your positivity about wig wearing. Can I ask though- Why do you dampen the wig?
I have 2 types of alopecia..it has taken 6 to years own this. People assume that you’ve had chemo if you tell them you’re nearly bald which made me feel guilty with only having ‘hair loss’! I tried everything real hair toppers, nets with extensions sewn on,I strived to get the match to my thinning fine hair…spending a fortune in the process. Then I found Simply Wigs firstly, who do red, hurah, and so many styles and makes at reasonable affordable prices. I am told I look younger with my styles and thicker hair, so for me the negative definitely has a positive .no more hours in rollers only for my hair to go straight. I just decide my style for the day, dampen the chosen wig ,shake into place away I go.. Proud wig wearer!!
Hi there,
This is the Tori wig from Rene of Paris.
Gail,
Your story resonates with me completely. I started pulling my hair out in 1979 and couldn’t stop… I too decided that shaving my head was the way forward but I didn’t wear wigs until 2003 after the birth of my first child.
To be honest, I’ve had a fantastic life and am totally honest about my hair not being my own :-)… and like you, I just love my wigs.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! xxx
Which wig is this, please?
