Storing Your Wig
INFORMED DECISION
After finding and purchasing your dream wig, it’s important to take all the right steps in caring for it to keep it looking fabulous for as long as possible! Storing your wig carelessly and incorrectly can result in it becoming tangled and misshapen, something all wig-wearers want to avoid. If you’re buying a wig for the first time and are unsure about how best to store it, you might be wondering whether a wig stand is the way to go. To help you make an informed decision, we’ve gathered all of the information you need to know about a wig holder and what it can do for your wig!
What Is a Wig Stand?
A wig stand is exactly what it sounds like – a stand for your lovely wig to store it when it isn’t being worn. Whether it be overnight or for days on end, storing your wig on a wig holder helps to maintain its all-important shape. One of the great benefits of having a stand for your wig is having a place for your wig to dry after being washed. A wig holder will help prevent your wig from tangling whilst it’s drying, ready to be worn again.
Collapsible wig stands are ideal for wig-wearers that use their wig most of the time. The stand can easily be collapsed and stored away when it isn’t being used, helping you to save space when the stand isn’t needed. This is also a great function for ladies wanting to take a wig stand on a trip. Simply collapse the wig and pop it into your hand luggage or suitcase! One extremely important way to care for your wig is to ensure it’s kept out of the sun when being stored or dried. This is where the portability of a wig stand comes in handy as it can be conveniently moved to the most suitable place in the shade.
A Wig Stand for Styling
It’s also beneficial to have a wig stand for styling. Wigs are often styled and cut when they aren’t being worn so putting a wig on a wig stand for styling helps to achieve a brilliant outcome. The wig stand helps the wig to fall as it would naturally, allowing for accurate styling.
Another benefit of wig stands is that they help your wig to breathe when it isn’t being used! This helps your wig look and feel fresh.
Alternative Wig Storage
Mannequin Heads
As well as wig stands, wigs can also be stored on mannequin heads. These are often better at shaping your wig as they more accurately represent a human head. However, they often come at a higher price and aren’t as travel-friendly as a wig holder. Due to not being collapsible, wig mannequins can take up more space than wig stands and aren’t portable. Additionally, some prefer not to have a mannequin face on their dressing table or in their bedroom.
Lightweight Styling Head
For those looking for something more substantial than a wig stand, but something less substantial than a mannequin head, there are wig styling heads that are a little more subtle but still do the trick. These polystyrene heads are extremely lightweight and, again, are brilliant for keeping your wig in shape when you aren’t wearing it. However, if you are looking to travel with your wig storage, this will again be difficult as styling heads are rather bulky and not collapsible.
Not storing your wig correctly can be extremely detrimental to your wig, and can result in it becoming misshapen or tangled. How you choose to store your wig depends on a variety of factors, such as price and whether or not you want to be able to travel with it. If you don’t currently have a form of wig holder or wig stand, it’s imperative to get something in place to prolong the life of your wig and keep it in great condition!
As well as investing in a quality wig stand, quality wig care products are just as important when looking after your wig.

Can you straighten a wig on a wig stand?
The style is very easy to look after 🙂
We would recommend using either a wide tooth comb or just your fingers to help style it out. To make the loose waves stand out more you may want to use a styling gel on the piece to define the wave. But please remember to regularly wash the piece if you are using a styling product on the piece to remove the excess build up of the styling product.
