Unfortunately, not all online stores are reputable. Over time, the UK wig market has become challenging for both legitimate wig websites and consumers, with fraudulent wig companies putting up their best fight to fool wig-wearers.
In this blog, we’ll discuss why it’s become trickier to identify scam wig companies online, how you can tell if a site is fraudulent, and some wig sites to avoid at all costs.
Why Has it Become Difficult to Identify Scam Wig Sites?
Similar prices: Many cheaper, poorer-quality wig companies have started to raise their prices to a point where they fall in the same price range as wig sellers like Simply Wigs. Ultimately, this price shift has created some confusion for customers, as suspiciously low price points used to be a key indicator of inferior products. Now, consumers can’t always judge the quality of a wig on its price alone. Furthermore, with prices being so similar, consumers often confuse higher-priced established wig companies for scammers.
Similar visuals: It has become harder to differentiate sites, especially as fraudulent ones have started mimicking the web design and images used on the best legitimate wig websites. Appearance has further blurred the lines between good and bad wig sites and increased consumers’ wariness to shop online.
What Do Scam Wig Companies Do?
Scam wig companies are deceitful groups or individuals who use the front of being a reputable wig company. Some of them look almost indistinguishable from legitimate companies.
They scam customers in a variety of ways:

How to Tell Legit Wig Sites from the Fake
So, how do you know if you’re shopping online at a legitimate wig company?
The problem with fraudulent websites is that they can look so convincing when they pose as top-rated wig companies. However, there are tell-tale signs to look out for. These include:
The first thing you should do is search for the company’s name, with the word ‘reviews’ – for example, ‘ewigs reviews’. Some guidance to check that reviews are real includes:
– Don’t look at reviews on the website itself. If you have any doubts about a company, make sure you check the reviews on an independent site like REVIEWS.io and Trustpilot. The company can put anything they like on their own website! For example, Ewigs has over 4,000 reviews on their website and every single one is four or five stars, but if you look at review sites, the majority are only one or two stars.
– Pay attention to negative reviews. While most sites will have some negative reviews, seeing what people are complaining about can give you a better idea of what you’re dealing with. Look for trends among negative reviews – if lots of reviewers found they never received a product, or received a different product than they expected, it’s not an isolated incident.
– Pictures and videos. We love seeing our beautiful customers wearing their creations and we encourage people to take pictures in their wigs to send to us or attach to reviews. Scam companies aren’t usually likely to take the time to find homemade footage or pictures, and many scam sites use poorly rendered images (so they might be blurry or look stretched).
Can you find any contact information about the page? Often, scam wig companies will just have a contact form, and maybe a phone number or email address. Reputable wig sellers should have a full address available (which companies pretending to be based in the UK won’t have), and often, you’ll be able to contact them via social media as well.
A good rule of thumb when shopping online is ‘if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is’ – if you’ve found a wig that retails at £200 being sold for £20, there’s likely there’s something else at play!
We’re not suggesting that you run every website through a grammar checker before you buy, but if the content on the site is stilted, unclear or poorly written, that should wave a red flag.
When you click on a new website, your browser will tell you if the site is secure or not with a little padlock symbol. If the site is not secure, you should avoid spending any money with the company, as your information will not be safe!
If you’re unsure if a company is legitimate, you can always check with Companies House. All limited companies in the UK must be registered with Companies House and it will provide you with the director’s name(s) and the company’s history. If they’re not registered, that means that they don’t have a physical shop or office in the UK.
If you have bought a wig and you are unsure about its quality, be aware of a chemical smell. This smell appears when the natural hair colour has been stripped out of the wig in order for it to be chemically dyed to a different range of colours. The stripping of the colour also strips away the hair quality, leaving you with a substandard wig.
Back in 2014, Emma appeared on Radio 4’s consumer affairs programme, You & Yours, to discuss the trend of disreputable wig companies trading online to UK customers. Listen as Emma shares a customer story and some caring and helpful advice, explaining how non-UK wig companies are cloning trustworthy wig websites and using .co.uk addresses to fool customers into thinking they are reliable websites.

What to Look for in Reliable Wig Companies
So what are the green flags? What can you look for in a company that is worth your custom?

Final Advice on Avoiding Scam Wig Companies
1. Check the URL
We have also been made aware that there are several companies using the Simply Wigs name in their advertising. Always make sure you’re shopping on our official site to avoid being caught out! Make sure the URL is correct before entering any information.
Check out the listings below; the first is from our official site, but the second is a different site using our name. We’ve highlighted the URLs in red so you know what to look for!

2. Do your research
When you’re browsing cheap ‘UK-based’ wig sites, be cautious and do your research before you buy any new products. Every week, we talk to heartbroken people who these companies have scammed, and we are angry and saddened that they are still allowed to trade.
3. Spread the word!
As many scam wig companies are not based in the UK, we are unable to prosecute them. However, if Trading Standards cannot protect people who may be shopping at a very vulnerable time in their lives, then it’s time we spread the word ourselves!
We ask that you please repost this through your own social channels. Together, we can get the word out that we will not be duped by these dishonourable companies anymore.
Our team knows that buying a wig can be an emotional and highly personal process. The UK has many highly-rated, quality, legitimate wig companies that will endeavour to make the process as easy and painless as possible.
When it comes down to it, if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of a company, you’ll be safer not spending your money with them. If you have any questions about this topic, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. The Simply Wigs team are always here to help.

You’re perfectly right. I’ve been scammed by Choolar/Belment. They delivered very old fashion wigs to me instead of the frontal lace wigs they posted. As agreed, I provided them with the pictures of the wigs I received but they Asked me to ship them back at my own expense. PayPal asked me to report it to the police.
I was trying something different. I tend to not trust other people. But my clients put there faith in me everyday. And I felt I was wrong for not growing my faith in other Businesses. I place a order with Luna Wigs. 3 months ago. I knew it was a bad purchase after the first week past. I was getting updates I could follow up on. But because I don’t trust. I’m only out of $53.00. My 5 year old grand baby spends that on junk. I’ll stay with hair sites like ( Hair sisters, Wigtype & Samsbeauty)
i brought 2 wigs from a co called shoshops wigs and i waited 3 months for them and they sent me wigs that looked like they got it out of the trash bin and it looked nothing like online neither of them i thought of returning them bac to get a refund but it took 3 months just for them to send them i showed them to my daughter she didnt believe how bad they looked then told her to trash them because thats the way the looked when i got them.
The fact that it was the wrong size and the wrong colour and you are doubtful it was Remy hair means they are not sending you want you ordered. You should send it back but you can’t. Glad you can make something of it.
It’s almost impossible unless your bank refunds you. I was sent a wig that was like a cheap nasty nylon thisng you would buy in a fancy dress shop. I complained and was told I could have a discount off another wig!! Then they stopped answering my emails. They only write good reviews themselves and don’t print the negative ones.
I priced two wigs from Choolor Wigs this website. Using my reload credit cared. After price received email saying I would receive another email when shipped. Never got an email attempted to return to there site and it doesn’t exist.Find a link to a facebook page it still doesn’t exist.
I almost feel like paypal is in on it. They immediately denied my request for money back. I had not gotten my merchandise. Then I got it 3 days after my claim it looks a mess.
Can I ask how long did it take for your wig to be delivered as I have ordered one from them yesterday but no delivery details were sent??
This happened to me. I’m waiting for my order. I’m so upset now I just want my money back. What can I do?
Sorry the website is Urhair.co.uk
Good afternoon
I have posted this site to you on behalf of my daughter who innocently ordered a human hair wig from the above site as she suffer with alopecia. When the wig arrived it was nothing like it was on the website and very poor quality, to the degree as to whether it is actually human hair! She has been in protracted correspondence with the above with regard to returning the product as no paperwork was received and hence no delivery address details. To date no address has been provided, all they keep doing is offering her a new wig, at a reduced cost, or an unacceptable refund!
Unfortunately it seems that my daughter has been caught up in one of the scams you have mentioned! I know how much this has distressed my daughter, hence the reason for letting you know the name of this site so it can be added to your list and then hopefully it may prevent someone else going through a stressful and distressing time.
Regards
Hazel

How can I find a reputable wig company I can use online as I live in Portgual.
It wont help. I just got my wigs today that I ordered in April. Once i reported it to PayPal to get help they sent the wigs right away. They are horrible. Not at all what i ordered and i dont know what to do now.
Me also. I can’t even start the complaint with PayPal. Its saying I’m missing information. The 3 wigs I ordered where lovely I’ve got 3 minging wigs made from straw.. Im laughing now. I was so giddy my hubby said if it sounds too good t be true it probably is. How right he was.
I did the same thing. It took almost 2 months to receive. No tracking info that was concrete. Then when I FINALLY received my 3 wigs they were NOT the 3 that I ordered. It’s like they just threw 3 wigs in a bag and sent them. Wrong color Wrong style. I am furious.
Thank you so much I’ll do that.
me to!!!!! And no reviews at all
I just ordered one yesterday and paid $20 for fast shipping and had the same problem. I received no order information, no tracking information. Emailed them multiple times and got no response back From that wig sale shop website.
I have never had such difficulty getting a refund which was
for a cancellation not a return. I am still waiting from 7th MAY.
there is no address and I realise this is a chinese company.
Originally I ordered two wigs the same and immediately
cancelled but they sent me one wig and I asked for return
address which they did not give me.Theystill have the second
wig and I have asked for refund of £84.for one wig but nothing
so I am stuck with the wig but okay where is refund for the other one.
Is this site called wigsale shop I brought 6 wigs. My order keeps saying order placed since last week I Haven’t heard nothing from them I paid $ 80.86 for 6 wigs I sent them over 4 or 5 messages and not heard nothing from that company I called the number and came to find out that number was a dating site.
I ordered 3 wigs from choolor that was supposedly on sale. I placed my order on april 21 total was $74.80. Including the express shipping. I still haven’t received my order. I just went to their website and it is no longer up. Do not order from them.
I have purchased 2 wigs through urhair Trying to get any information from them is painful! I am now in dispute with them via PayPal.
Wigs firstly didn’t arrive, then one came and it isn’t at all like the wig I ordered. Have asked for a full refund. Not lace front, S instead of P and wrong colour and dull dull dull. No shine to it.
They are in China.
Beware of this fraud Choolor Wigs if you see this email address [email protected] do not buy !!!!
I ordered wigs for my mom & haven’t received anything. Who did you contact?
REWIGS are a scam too.
I am also. The shipping came from New Jersey and they want me to send to China. If you send to China, you can’t get a tracking number pass the entry point so the company can say they never received it. My wigs looked nothing like the items I ordered and were cheap, not human hair,
Yes I agree we need to file a claim against PayPal. They are no help at all.
Same thing happened to me. I ordered 2 wigs ($49.95). It’s been over a month since they texted me saying my order was on the way. I’ve texted and emailed them. Of course, there’s no response.
Pinnacle Bank
This is the same company I order my wigs from until this say I not even heard from them so people please be careful most of these wigs site that is advertising on Facebook are scammers
I am going through the same problem now. I ordered a wig from “Lily Hair” and got an order confirmation this email address: [email protected] I also paid through PayPal. Not sure I will ever use them for any transaction going forward since they are not helpful with resolving fraudulent transactions.
I have not received the item. The tracking information is false and the web site link is broken. I have sent an email to them with no response. This is getting very ridiculous now.
Please skip PayPal amd ask your bank or credit card provider to retrieve your money back. I did the same and got my moneyback. PayPal won’t help you woth anything
Good luck
you can call synchrony because they are the actual ones you have papal account with. They definitely will help you get your money back. They have helped me 2x
Same thing happened to me. I purchased wigs from SZYR Wig via PayPal and PayPal closed my case. And refuse to help me. So disappointed and emotionally upset. My money just gone? End of story according to PayPal. I used PayPal for security. And received a slap in my face.
Same I had NO idea it was coming from China. Had I known that I wouldn’t have ordered from this company. A few of these companies have a California address and customer service number. But when you call they give you a bs message and hangs up in your face. I definitely learned my lesson, I will definitely do my homework next time.
I ordered from Wiglamorous US. Item and postage was $49.98.which PayPal paid to Belmont??? Item was ordered on 5-19 and I have not received any information on shipping. Have tried to contact all parties concerned to no avail. PayPal said that I need to give Belmont time to respond to their letter and that we should try to resolve issue. If not, file a claim with them which according to all of the dialog, they do not help with resolution
Ordered from rewigs.co.uk based in UK supposedly
Wig not as described coarse fibers nothing like the picture am trying through PayPal to get a refund they offer £15 then £35 now £30 return address is in China disgraceful being unco-operative paid £69 plus postage so am trying to get full refund of £69 for the wig ongoing total £90 paid included stand and free bits
Yes! Going through the dispute process with Paypal against
SZYR WIG
They are fraud. DO NOT PURCHASE from them.
Same here with SZYR WIGS! I am disputing with Paypal
As of now I’m still waiting on 4 wigs I order from the same company I’m pissed because it’s been over 3 weeks
I returned the wig to the address from where it was sent before the 15 day deadline to get a refund because they wouldn’t give me an address to return it and PayPal said it was returned the wrong address (Rewigs wouldn’t give me an address where to return it.) I lost my case with PayPal.
Well if that came from a tc belment choolor shop they are under nadula hair i would suggest going through them with your order number. For anyone having a issue with these ppl. Ridiculous
Hi Rachael..no received nothing yet but after reading messages on this site..think lockdown will end first
They are going under a new name nadula hair the original site is taken down. I sent several messages and had to threaten them with refund proceedings before I got a response. Still don’t have package so I shall see.
same happening to me. I am fed up trying to contact company that now took down website. Choolor wigs is trying to scam me and payment went through PayPal. Do not order from any company bearing belmento1 to contact them.
I ordered from muayomi wigs and they are just fraudsters. No updates no details nothing.
I ordered 3 wigs for 45$ and i haven’t even got my tracking details,no update on my order.Im just furious right now.
I was ripped off too, $80 for the wig and $23 to return it to a place that didn’t exist!! PayPal didn’t help me out in getting a refund.
