Unfortunately, not all online stores are reputable. Over time, the UK wig market has become challenging for both legitimate wig websites and consumers, with fraudulent wig companies putting up their best fight to fool wig-wearers.
In this blog, we’ll discuss why it’s become trickier to identify scam wig companies online, how you can tell if a site is fraudulent, and some wig sites to avoid at all costs.
Why Has it Become Difficult to Identify Scam Wig Sites?
Similar prices: Many cheaper, poorer-quality wig companies have started to raise their prices to a point where they fall in the same price range as wig sellers like Simply Wigs. Ultimately, this price shift has created some confusion for customers, as suspiciously low price points used to be a key indicator of inferior products. Now, consumers can’t always judge the quality of a wig on its price alone. Furthermore, with prices being so similar, consumers often confuse higher-priced established wig companies for scammers.
Similar visuals: It has become harder to differentiate sites, especially as fraudulent ones have started mimicking the web design and images used on the best legitimate wig websites. Appearance has further blurred the lines between good and bad wig sites and increased consumers’ wariness to shop online.
What Do Scam Wig Companies Do?
Scam wig companies are deceitful groups or individuals who use the front of being a reputable wig company. Some of them look almost indistinguishable from legitimate companies.
They scam customers in a variety of ways:

How to Tell Legit Wig Sites from the Fake
So, how do you know if you’re shopping online at a legitimate wig company?
The problem with fraudulent websites is that they can look so convincing when they pose as top-rated wig companies. However, there are tell-tale signs to look out for. These include:
The first thing you should do is search for the company’s name, with the word ‘reviews’ – for example, ‘ewigs reviews’. Some guidance to check that reviews are real includes:
– Don’t look at reviews on the website itself. If you have any doubts about a company, make sure you check the reviews on an independent site like REVIEWS.io and Trustpilot. The company can put anything they like on their own website! For example, Ewigs has over 4,000 reviews on their website and every single one is four or five stars, but if you look at review sites, the majority are only one or two stars.
– Pay attention to negative reviews. While most sites will have some negative reviews, seeing what people are complaining about can give you a better idea of what you’re dealing with. Look for trends among negative reviews – if lots of reviewers found they never received a product, or received a different product than they expected, it’s not an isolated incident.
– Pictures and videos. We love seeing our beautiful customers wearing their creations and we encourage people to take pictures in their wigs to send to us or attach to reviews. Scam companies aren’t usually likely to take the time to find homemade footage or pictures, and many scam sites use poorly rendered images (so they might be blurry or look stretched).
Can you find any contact information about the page? Often, scam wig companies will just have a contact form, and maybe a phone number or email address. Reputable wig sellers should have a full address available (which companies pretending to be based in the UK won’t have), and often, you’ll be able to contact them via social media as well.
A good rule of thumb when shopping online is ‘if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is’ – if you’ve found a wig that retails at £200 being sold for £20, there’s likely there’s something else at play!
We’re not suggesting that you run every website through a grammar checker before you buy, but if the content on the site is stilted, unclear or poorly written, that should wave a red flag.
When you click on a new website, your browser will tell you if the site is secure or not with a little padlock symbol. If the site is not secure, you should avoid spending any money with the company, as your information will not be safe!
If you’re unsure if a company is legitimate, you can always check with Companies House. All limited companies in the UK must be registered with Companies House and it will provide you with the director’s name(s) and the company’s history. If they’re not registered, that means that they don’t have a physical shop or office in the UK.
If you have bought a wig and you are unsure about its quality, be aware of a chemical smell. This smell appears when the natural hair colour has been stripped out of the wig in order for it to be chemically dyed to a different range of colours. The stripping of the colour also strips away the hair quality, leaving you with a substandard wig.
Back in 2014, Emma appeared on Radio 4’s consumer affairs programme, You & Yours, to discuss the trend of disreputable wig companies trading online to UK customers. Listen as Emma shares a customer story and some caring and helpful advice, explaining how non-UK wig companies are cloning trustworthy wig websites and using .co.uk addresses to fool customers into thinking they are reliable websites.

What to Look for in Reliable Wig Companies
So what are the green flags? What can you look for in a company that is worth your custom?

Final Advice on Avoiding Scam Wig Companies
1. Check the URL
We have also been made aware that there are several companies using the Simply Wigs name in their advertising. Always make sure you’re shopping on our official site to avoid being caught out! Make sure the URL is correct before entering any information.
Check out the listings below; the first is from our official site, but the second is a different site using our name. We’ve highlighted the URLs in red so you know what to look for!

2. Do your research
When you’re browsing cheap ‘UK-based’ wig sites, be cautious and do your research before you buy any new products. Every week, we talk to heartbroken people who these companies have scammed, and we are angry and saddened that they are still allowed to trade.
3. Spread the word!
As many scam wig companies are not based in the UK, we are unable to prosecute them. However, if Trading Standards cannot protect people who may be shopping at a very vulnerable time in their lives, then it’s time we spread the word ourselves!
We ask that you please repost this through your own social channels. Together, we can get the word out that we will not be duped by these dishonourable companies anymore.
Our team knows that buying a wig can be an emotional and highly personal process. The UK has many highly-rated, quality, legitimate wig companies that will endeavour to make the process as easy and painless as possible.
When it comes down to it, if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of a company, you’ll be safer not spending your money with them. If you have any questions about this topic, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. The Simply Wigs team are always here to help.

I am having problems with the following pENCZC wigs
I have sent so many emails to show many links regarding this company all I need is a return address they only give you a short time to return I don’t know what else to do so I know I’m not going to get my money back are they one of these fraudulent situations
I ordered January 17th from Belment they billed my Visa on the 18th I have sent three emails and I’ve never heard anything from them nor do they respond. I guess I’m out my money as well I’m going to try to call Visa to see if they can do anything
EWIGSPLUS ANOTHER FRAUDULENT SCAMMING CHINESE OPERATION. Do not buy from these people. CHINA SHOULD BE ASHAMED. BAN CHINA. BAN CHINA. BAN CHINA. DO NOT BUY FROM CRIMINALS IN A COUNTRY WHERE THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR ANYTHING.
Hi,me too last Oct18,2019,I ordered a wig from Belment Paypal, its an ad from FacebooK
when I place my order using my credit card it shows Paypal,I guess theyre the one
accepting the charge.I tried to call the Belment and emailed them,I could not get an answer
so I contacted the Pay pal and they stated I have to pay $64 to send it back and he send me
an address that is fake.I tried to dispute it but no luck my credit card stated that they can not
do anything at all I also send the pictures so I got scam and I got ripped off.
Please let everyone know never order anything from facebook website that has the Paypal
with it,because the advertisement is from foreign country, from CHINA!
I am having the same problem with WWIIGG. I ordered hair from this site on January 18th 2020 and still have not seen the product as of January 27th. Is this a legit shop? Has anyone ever ordered from this company before? If so how long did it take for the hair to come?
Is Luna wigs in that list of wigs scam I been waiting for my wig all end of 2019 December all month you might as well February will be here and I still did not receive my oder or refund I want to go about legal action swiftly they my swiftly can anybody help me
It would be a joke if it wasn’t so serious. They’re scamming people who are often losing hair from illness and age. I was lucky and was refunded by PayPal. Seems many of you have to face the loss. It seems like one company with many names. The photos tend to be the same…and they are there on Wish at a fraction of the price with the same photos. Would admin on this page consider going public or does that pose issues until we all agree?
ewigplus is another company, send me a a synthetic wig not what I ordered. I contact them and ask for a return slip and they send me an email saying that I have to pay for the shipping. They told me to send them another email asking for the return address, I did that and what they send was the same email saying that I have to ask for the return address.. and if I don’t return in time they don’t going to refund my money.
Watch out for CiCi Wigs!!!! They are scammers. You will not receive the wig you ordered. I ordered a natural colored, brazilian wig with a beautiful curl pattern. I received a long off-colored red wig that hung to my knees. They would not reimburse me my money. What a joke!
This is Lisa again. I forgot to mention the name of the fraudulent wig company was wigsbuy.
I agree. Same thing happened to me. The only difference is that I was receiving one wig each day from the Chinese company with my credit card billed. The courier just left them on my porch. No signature required and no legitimate return address to send them back. I noticed wish.com is in on this scam also.
I have also received fake merchandise from the non-existent companies Belment and Hairis …advertising boots also. They have billed me 4 times for the boots (whose return address was China also) and I cannot get my money back because there’s no way to track these people. This has got to be stopped. Lisa
Premier Lace wigs is a fraud. I’ve purchased two units from this company only to have within three washes the hair break and shed so badly. They said a $500 wig is not a good quality work and I shouldn’t expect any better. If I wanted a wig that was going to be better I need to pay at least $1000 for it. My order was for a virgin full human hair wig. I’m convinced if you ask for higher density you pay extra but they turn around and stuff it with synthetic or very over processed Remy hair
I just hot one from belment and it was not at all what I ordered. Nothing like the picture or video.
Another company to add to the list is Wish.com who are like a Chinese eBay selling everything from wigs to clothing. Ordered two wigs (Raquel Welch photos… should have warned me!) which turned out to be unwearable. Horrible colours, plastic shiny fibers and style nothing to do with the photos . If something is too cheap to be true it probably is best to avoid.
If you know anyone who got a wig from wigsdo I got the return address it will cost you $55.40 to send the wig or wigs back and you get a tracking number amd it takes about 8 to 10 day .
Yes my hair fell out from my medications was it from belment
We need to get the wig scamming story out there . Any way to get thr story out there is great.
It’s not my paper, but the Sun takes stories. I don’t read the Daily .mail, but they’re pretty good on campaigns .
That didn’t work for me.
Need to go to cbs they have a email and a phone number I left a email i think the more emails we can get something done .we need to Sharing this
How do we start the process to expose these foreign companies?? I’m all in.
Will do. You are right. We need some investigative reporting to get the attention of national law enforcement. I called another wig company last night who happened to have a contact number on it I could tell the call was answered in China. The person barely spoke English. I told her that I was just investigating whether or not the contact number was legitimate before I ordered. She did not answer the phone as if I were calling a legitimate business. I will stick to ordering products from well-known store brands from now on.
Yes I ordered a lace front wig from finewigs and when I got it, it wasn’t what I ordered no lace front, the only thing they got right was the color, I dont pay money for fake hair it was not human hair they are a fraud.
Hi Wendy, If you paid thru pay pal let them know or a credit card contact the bank. Good Luck.. Dotty
I Google CBS how to contact them . They have a email and a phone.
Add Belment to the list for sure..just filed a claim with them thru PayPal to get money back. Do not order from them!
Thanks. I have been trying to get my money back from them. I will expose them on social media.
Carol I agree with you. If you can find out how we can report these people and expose them post it because I’m with you to help get it done.
Hi Michael, apologies for my delay in getting back to you. I made the purchase through PayPal. Initially I was in correspondence via email with the customer services at Urhair, but they were not willing to offer refund, instead wanted me to spend even more money on another wig, which they claimed would be as I ordered! As I was getting nowhere with Urhair I contacted the Resolution Centre at PayPal in the hope they could resolve this for me. The wig cost approximately £134 and PayPal offered me £50. I declined their offer (as wig not worn, brushed and still had label, original packaging etc) they closed the case and haven’t heard anything further. Unfortunately I keep seeing adverts for Urhair which pop up when browsing the web.
Best wishes Deborah
Yes. People who buy wigs often have health problems. It’s apalling.
I have said over and over we need to stop the wig scamers. But all I here is that people complaining about not getting their money or the wig they ordered then let’s do something about Complaining about it is not getting anything done. Let’s all get on the same page and do something. I have email cbs to do a story now you all need to to the same so the story can get on National TV. Please share.
We need to stop the wig scamers. People need wigs because they have no hair and the wigs make the feel beautiful. A lot of people have Cancel our hair loss . It is so sad that wig website scam people . So let all together to stop the scamming. We need to get this on national tv.
I bought from these people. At the time they advertised free returns via PayPal. As you say, the contact Belment give isn’t a contact and the wig isn’t what you ordered and looks like the cheapest dolls hair. PayPal paid back my money. Alternatively, card companies should underwrite. PayPal asked that I reported it to Trading Standards. Good luck! This scam needs to be stopped.
We all need to to get this story out about wigs scanning. You all need to go to CBS and leave a email or call . I did but you all need to but this in your Blog . So share this.
I did the same thing and now they tell me it was the wrong address and won’t give me a refund.
Contact your bank or if you used paypal they can help. Had the same problem. $172.00
I had the same thing happen to me from rewigs. They ignored all emails to return so I sent it to were it came from and they say I sent it the wrong place and will not refund my money…$172.00. Put it a claim with Paypal, I hope they can help me.
Hi Debra. Please would you explain why PayPal couldn’t help you.
I agree with you Carol. Something must be done to stop this elicit so called company advertising their wares. There has been a tremendous amount of ongoing bad publicity surrounding this Chinese company Urhair. They seem to be on every web site I visit, even though they have not been invited to do so. Unfortunately with their persistent advertising campaign, their will be people who will fall foul to their lies and believe they a purchasing a professional product.
I bought a wig from a company called finewigs which I just recently found out it’s name is Belment. The wig was nothing like the advertised picture, it was synthetic hair and infested with bugs. I emailed the company but did not get a response. The phone number on the website does not exist. I’m very upset. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Could you tell me how you went about to get a refund please from pay pal
Rewigs is giving me a lot of problems, trying to return the wig and they keep answering me (try it this way, bring it to your hair stylist, It’s a very good wig just keep it and we will give you a discount) Can you believe this kind of Customer service!!
Urhair is a scam. They use stolen photos. I should have realized when I saw famous peoples photos on there. the wig I received was even the same colour. There is no refunds, just a discount offered on another one!
Can’t something be done???
Hi, before I found Simply Wigs, I made the terrible mistake of buying a wig from Urhair. Please DO NOT buy from them. I ordered a human hair wig, what arrived was a very poor synthetic unrealistic wig. The cut and colour were also not as described. Their customer service is appalling, they say they offer a full refund but this is not the case. I took this issue up with PayPal who unfortunately did not help either. I lost the entire cost of the wig. Please avoid this company and spend your money with an excellent company like Simply Wigs. X
Thank you Nessa.
Thanks for the heads up Diane.
I had an absolute nightmare with these!! Luckily for me though PayPal refunded me
These companies in China make it look there legal, then send garbage to return I’m Being told 70 dollars
Hello, same has happened to me.
Thats a good idea. I will contact my bank as well.
qplwigs is a fraud
