Being bald, and especially growing up bald, carries so many expectations, pre-conceptions and stories which aren’t our own, but the views of society that we live in.
It is quite daunting having a condition that is so rare and very often overlooked in the hair loss industry.
MONILETHRIX, a term used to describe my baldness and very little research exists and I only know one other person with this condition.
1. This is my story
A raw expansion of humanness.
I am a Yorkshire girl. I was raised in Huddersfield, but have since relocated to Manchester in 2022.
I was born with a rare genetic condition, Monilethrix, which meant I couldn’t grow hair, and when growing up, it always felt that amongst my peers, I was an outsider.
My life sometimes seemed messy, sometimes chaotic, but always different!
Growing up without hair, I felt a bit disconnected and sometimes unsure of my identity or who I was meant to become. But as I grew older, I learnt how to cope the only way I knew: by masking, pushing through, and simply getting by. So, when I was a student, I decided to get my head down and study hard. In doing so, I got fantastic grades and achieved a place at the University of Nottingham in 2019. After a couple of years of more studying (and the occasional party!) I earned my BSc in Psychology. During that time, it was not apparent to me that life was being navigated in a state of disconnection – functioning merely out of necessity, rather than with a true sense of self.

‘YOU DON’T NEED TO BE FIXED – YOU WERE NEVER BROKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE’
I moved to Manchester in 2020 to study my MA in Gender, Sexuality and Culture Studies. At that time, I noticed that my mindset shifted. I don’t know what it was, but something changed in me, my self-awareness, my confidence and my journey of (re)-embodiment began.
I soon realised the beauty of recognising that our bodies are shaped by unique experiences – no two bodies, emotions, or stories are the same. Yet, at our core, we are all human. It is in this shared humanness that I find the rawness and depth of movement – where we are free to show up as we are, without needing to fit a mould.
I believe that awareness bridges the gap between ‘doing’ and ‘being.’ With awareness, we open ourselves to the full spectrum of emotions, sensations, and explorations we encounter throughout a lifetime. In this space, movement becomes more than a physical practice – it becomes a pathway back to ourselves.
2. My Yoga
MOVE | FEEL | UNLEARN.
Treacle Movement is born from my own journey – creating a raw expansion of humanness. It is a well-rounded approach that encourages movement, playful discovery, and creative expression, all guided by how your body feels from the inside. It focuses on becoming more aware of yourself and staying in tune with your body’s natural rhythm and inner wisdom.
Treacle Movement is where I share that journey – a space that celebrates strength, choice, and personal empowerment. Here, movement isn’t just about making shapes; it’s about waking up your senses, exploring through play, expressing yourself, and staying curious.

I take an unconventional approach to movement – one that challenges and redefines its dominant narrative. Agency, awareness, choice, curiosity and humanness are at the heart of my space holding.
