5 Ways To Refresh Your Wig

5 Ways To Refresh Your Wig

In this blog, we give you some helpful tips on how to refresh your wig and bring it back to life! Over time, wigs can start to feel a little grubby, lose their shine or simply not look as vibrant as they once did. We share small maintenance tips and how to restyle your wig for a refreshed appearance, helping you keep it looking its best for longer.

5 Simple Ways To Revive Your Style

1. Wash Your Wig

Washing your wig is so important and is the key to keeping your wig in the best condition for as long as possible. We recommend that you wash your wig every 7-10 wears to keep the fibres in the best condition, and is the perfect way to refresh your look.

Using the correct products for your wig is just as important as keeping up with the maintenance, to ensure the fibres stay in tip top condition. Take a look at our care products, which are specially designed to be used on wigs. Always check the descriptions against the manufactures guide, to ensure you’re searching for the correct products.

2. Style Your Wig

If you have a heat-friendly or human hair wig they do need to have heat applied to keep the fibres nourished and smooth. If not, you may experience knotting/frizzing towards the ends very quickly. Adding heat is the perfect way to refresh these types of fibres to either change up your look, or to make the hair smooth again.

The recommended temperature of your heated tools start from 130°C, but always make sure to check the manufactures guide before any styling. Applying too higher temperature can cause your wig to appear frizzy, and you may permanently damage the fibres.

This quick video shows some top tips when using heat to style your wig.

3. Accessorize Your Wig

Adding an accessory to your wig can make your wig look refreshed and your whole outfit pop! If you’re wanting to get the hair away from your face for the day, or looking to add some flair to your half-up half-down look, then bows and claw clips are just perfect!

Why not take a look at our playlist of hairstyles for some more styling ideas?

If accessorizing your wig with bows and clips isn’t for you, then don’t worry! Simply adding some headwear from our beautiful collection is another brilliant way to make your wig look nice and refreshed. Take a look below at some of our favourite looks:

4. Customize Your Wig

If you’re finding the ends of your wig feeling a little frizzy/matted, this is likely as a result of collar rub. This is a result of the fibres rubbing against your clothes, and unfortunately cannot be avoided. If however you’re loving your wig and want to get rid of this, having a trim is the most effective way to make those fibres feel soft again!

Maybe you’re wanting to test out a new look, but not yet ready to let go of your current wig? Why not get booked in for a whole new re-style! Our fabulous hairdresser Sue will be more than happy to personalise your look by cutting your wig shorter, adding some layers or maybe even cutting in a full fringe!

5. Repurpose Your Wig

Do you have a wig that’s no longer your go-to or one you don’t find yourself reaching for as often? Instead of letting it sit unused, why not give it a new purpose? It can be perfect for more casual settings, such as wearing it to the gym, enjoying a beautiful day at the beach, running errands, or simply relaxing around the house. Repurposing your wigs in this way is a great way to get even more value and wear out of your collection!

Just keep in mind that certain activities can be a little harsher on wig fibres. Swimming in saltwater or chlorine, and exposure to sun can gradually affect the look and longevity of a wig. Because of this, it’s a good idea to keep your favourite or more premium wigs for special occasions, evenings out, or times when you want them to look their absolute best.
