Most of us are now thinking about setting off on our summer holidays. Whether you are going abroad or stopping nearer to home, when we arrive at our destination we all want to be able to pull our wigs out of the suitcase in tip-top condition. So, here are our 5 Top Tips.
Don’t forget – if you have some of your own Top Tips then please leave a comment at the bottom of the page so that the rest of the Whispers community can share.
1. Stay Fresh
You arrive at your holiday destination and pull your spare wig out of your suitcase. Taking a look at it you can see that it screams Bad Hair Day!
TIP ONE: Wash your spare wig before you go on holiday -This is a lifesaver! Invest in some high-quality wig hair care products and treat your wig to some special care before you set off.
2. Box It Up
Carry your wig/wigs in a box so that it does not get crushed in your case. We know this may mean using up a little extra room in your case for your wig, but from our customer’s experiences, it will be worth it.
TIP TWO: Take a wig box. Why not use the wig box that you first brought it home in? These boxes are great. After you have washed, conditioned, dried and styled your wig simply slip a hair net over it and put it in the box. You’re ready to go!
3. Pins ‘n’ things
You’re on holiday, so why not try something different. Don’t be afraid to change the style. It is a great chance to try that style that you did not try at home, because you thought people would notice the difference.
TIP THREE: Hair clips can be lifesavers and can change your hairstyle just like with normal hair. If you do not want to totally try a new look then simply put your hair up, tie it back or plait/braid it. To avoid losing them in your case, make sure you pack them in zipper bags or pin them onto a small piece of card. For the adventurous, you could even take a new wig style that you always wanted to try, but didn’t dare while you were at home doing your usual routine.
4. Be Prepared
You’re halfway through your holiday and you’re having a great time, but you find your wig needs a bit of TLC.
TIP FOUR: Take some wig shampoo & conditioner on holiday with you. Pack some of your usual wig shampoo and conditioner in travel-size bottles and seal well. You may even want to put them in a sealable bag to avoid spilling in your suitcase.
5. ‘Grip’ tastic
Sightseeing in the midday sun? Sitting near the pool with your wig on? Finding your head starting to get a little bit warm?
TIP FIVE: Use a wig grip. The wig grip was first designed to make wearing a wig during hair loss more secure and comfortable. It is a band made of elastic that fits around the hairline and many of our clients have told us that they can also help you stay cool in hot weather, by allowing sweat to evaporate off your scalp. It simply creates space between your wig and your scalp which allows for increased airflow.
Whatever you decide to do on holiday, wear your wig, wear turbans, or go without. Make sure that you have a fabulous time & enjoy your well-deserved break!
I take a selection of Christine turbans with me and give my scalp a rest. Obviously requires a supportive husband but Christine turbans come in so many lovely designs and colours…
ALWAYS take a spare wig with you on holiday. I had a horrid experience with my wig floating “down the Swanee” when I fell off a boat. Thank heavens I had a spare. We laugh about it now but at the time……
Fab tips thank you. I’m going away soon and it’s already 40 degrees over there and my anxiety is raising thinking about having my wig on in the weather and how I’ll manage.
I never wear my wig in day time so uncomfortable I wear head scarfs
Just wanted to let you know, when I go on holiday having washed my spare wig before I go I wrap it in the net, but I have bought a large, flat but padded material ipad holder (zip up) and place my wig flat in there whilst travelling. It has been in hand luggage usually, but recently my hand luggage has had to be put in the holdall. My wig was still fabulous when I took it out, and it takes up less space than a box. Maybe this could help others if they want to travel lighter? Hope this is useful.
When I go on holiday it’s usually hot ! I travel in my beautiful comfortable tatum wig by amour it’s very breathable for traveling in x x as soon as I get to my room off it comes and I wear my turban soo comfortable and cool for sunbathing and perfect for swimming too x x I wear my wig at dinner and on a night out to feel glammed up lol X x a tip I learned the hard way in Turkey this June and I slept without anything on my head as I normally do x x was bitten on my head whilst sleeping and had 3 massive horrible bites so from the next night onwards I slept in my turban x x enjoy your holidays x x love helen d x
I do struggle in the heat especially on holiday. I have some nice scarves but always feel they scream hair loss. Also on the beach it’s difficult. Have a nice swim cap but how on earth do you change from a wig or scarf into a swim cap on a crowded beach and then in reverse when I come out. Perhaps I am just being too sensitive and think everyone is staring when in actual fact they have better things to do
