Comfortable Wig?

Comfortable Wig?

Here at the Simply Wigs shop we have the privilege of seeing customers every day. For consultations, trimming, or reconditioning their wigs. It is always lovely to meet so many of our lovely community.

We also love talking to our customers at consultations, as we can pass on our expertise and we can also learn from you too. Tips & advice when shared, makes our communities hair loss journey, that little bit easier.

For this article we want to chat about cap constructions. Monofilaments are fabulous, as they create the illusion that the hair is coming from your own scalp. Some of our community though have commented that some monofilament cap construction have a strip across the front that can sometimes be seen. This strip does serve a purpose as it joins the main monofilament to the fringe area. In some styles though, especially with the lighter colours, and lower density wigs, this strip can be seen.

Gradually suppliers are recognising this and are introducing styles that have a continuous monofilament with no strip. Ellen Wille are at the forefront of the wig industry, with regards to technology and design.

  1. I have always soap my wigs in 1 cup of Apple cedar vinegar and a sink full of water for about two hours and then shampoo. Sounds crazy but it worked for me because the hair made my neck break out.
and cap was itchyand it doesn’t anymore.

  2. I have the Ellen Wille Select wig which fits beautifully and I get many compliments on how lovely my hair is and I like the natural look the lace front gives me but I find the lace front so itchy and uncomfortable I can’t wait to take it off, please please will someone come up with a solution to this problem as unfortunately I will now always be a wig wearer.

  3. I have worn wigs for twenty years due to alopecia totalis. I do tend to buy monofiliment or double monofiliment for the comfort aspect but there are a lot of styles I like but don’t go for them as they have lace fronts which I find very scratchy even if you trim them down. I would love it if more wig manufacturer could find or use a more skin like material as for me this would be a lot more comfortable with my total hair loss.

  4. This is all very interesting, I’m looking forward to hearing more about comfortable thin
Wigs. I’m over 60, have a small head and love the silver blonde wigs.

  5. I have many different wigs ..short styles .all various cap constructions . But these very stiff pieces across the front fringe areas are very uncomfortable . Feels like stiff wire .
I trim it .wash it .. Try all different ways to make them more comfortable ..I wear wigs in public as I lost my hair through chemo treat ment…blood cancer . it’s not easy over many years to stay confident .

  6. Hi. I have worn a wig with the strip for years and have always felt it was a comfort strip as it helped kept the hair in place. I have since bought one without the strip and do not like it at all. I have never had a problem with the strip being seen and can’t wait to but another wig with the strip. Please don’t do away with it.

  7. I have been wearing wigs for 30 years and the advances made are brilliant. I tend to buy Ellen Wille wigs as many of their stylest don’t have a strip across the front even though, I tend to stick to the Raquel Welch urban collection the Idaho wig. The only point I would make about lace front is that sometimes they can end up being quite scratchy, I make sure when I wash my wigs to soak in the balm to help soften the wig. I’d appreciate any other bits of advice as how to overcome this.

  8. I am a sufferer of alopecia totalis and have been for the last 25 years. I discovered Ellen Wille wigs when visiting Prague 12 years ago. I was so thrilled with everything about it. Since then I do not even consider another make. They look so natural especially with the finish on the front hairline.

  9. Hi Simply Wigs!

When I first started wearing lace fronted wigs, I noticed this problem straight away. It can be so noticeable I sometimes wonder if the pros outweigh the cons. I only wear Ellen Eille wigs and haven’t seen any without this problem so am keen to know which ones are one continuous fabric! On YouTube I’ve seen wonderful ones with no join, possibly Jon Renau, not sure. That said, still prefer Ellen Wille for cap size and lower density. So glad you brought this up as nobody ever talks about it, even on YouTube Wig reviews!

Another issue I’d like to mention is that my monofilament Ellen Wille wigs are always dense at the crown where there should be a tapering away of fibres so the illusion of scalp can be seen. Instead, they are all tightly knotted just like the old basic caps from decades ago. I don’t understand it as it negates the purpose of the monofilament! Also, the monofilament doesn’t really form a clearly visible parting like wigs from other companies. I think there could be much improvement given they are the most expensive. Don’t want to moan too much, though, as they do fit well!
