Female pattern hair loss – Let me share my story

Female pattern hair loss – Let me share my story

I hadn’t noticed my thinning hairline – I suppose you don’t notice things as they change gradually. When I was around the age of twenty my sister pointed it out when I returned home from studying abroad, I am now forty-six. The next day I decided to make a humble black elastic headband, my best friend. It would go with me everywhere! With me to open the front door, it would accompany me on a night out. We were inseparable.

My lovely daddy (long departed) sent me to a Harley Street trichologist who did all the appropriate tests, and told us I had female pattern hair loss. A couple more years down the line daddy took me to a top hair restoration clinic, in Athens (Greece), where we live. We enquired about a hair transplant for me. The doctors said it wasn’t a possibility as there simply wasn’t enough hair on my head so they sat me down and took measurements for a custom human hair system.

From the age of twenty-five, I endured pain from wearing from that thing and not to mention the cost of having it replaced every few months. It was unbearable. It was constantly pulling on my bio hair, it caused pain on my scalp and my damaged my fragile roots when I combed it through after washing. I can’t even say it was a great solution to my problem, as I still had a mass of thick hair on top of my head and if the wind blew my limp sparse bio hair was all exposed.

Sora wig from the Sentoo Collection

Eight years ago I made the decision, I needed to transition to wigs. I visited one wig shop and that was all it took for me to make the second decision, I’d be going it alone.

I was a beginner and had absolutely no idea whatsoever about wigs. I thought that wigs were a one size fits all. It may fly off your head in the slightest of breeze. So, I searched online looking for help and knowledge, and I found the Simply Wigs website.

I measured my head for size according to instructions (I’m a petite), I read up on all the different kinds of wig constructions and methods of securing (which I used in the beginning but not anymore as I know I can trust them ) and I did it. I placed my first order.

The life changing confidence that decision gave me was enormous. Enormous enough for me to now be a mother to a four year old.

I’m not someone who dwells on regrets. I didn’t do it earlier because I needed time to make the right decision – but what matters is that I did it. And I’ve never looked back.

Love Anna x
