Hair loss for men

Hair loss for men

a unisex wig?

This is something I’ve been wanting to blog about for a couple of weeks now. You might wonder why, as this isn’t something particularly personal to me, but something that I saw recently on an alopecia support group, and it was really thought provoking.

As a woman when you lose your hair, it’s devastating because it’s something we rely on for our appearance and although now I’m ok with my alopecia, at the time of losing it I felt ugly and unattractive. Sometimes I still do when I take off my wig. People seem to assume that losing your hair must be worse for a woman, because essentially it’s slightly easier for men to perhaps pull of the bald look, or maybe easier for them to adjust. Typically (and this is not my personal opinion but those of society), it’s more of the norm for a woman to have long hair and for men to have short, or no hair.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy for a man though, right? Personally, as a woman I’ve had years of practice in hiding the parts about myself that I don’t like. Be that wearing a wig or concealing my spots, or dark circles with make-up. I’m lucky because I still have some eyebrows and long lashes, but if I did lose them I would still be able to draw on my eyebrows with the thousands of products I have stashed in my makeup bag. But as a man losing your hair and potentially your eyebrows, there’s a chance that they wouldn’t really know where to start with makeup and how to draw a realistic set of brows. Even us women struggle with this. This first occurred to me on an online forum, when a male user was discussing his struggle with the loss of his eyebrows. I suppose the real point of this blog was to create awareness, and to get the message across that there is a whole community of us that struggle on a day to day basis with things that might seem small to others.

On a more positive note, there are various ways we can build or regain our confidence that our hairloss has so cruelly stole from us. There are many different products and methods, and you can always get brilliant advice from the team at Simply Wigs too. Interestingly, I recently reviewed a wig sent to me from Simply Wigs HQ, which is unisex. Isn’t that just brilliant!? Being so involved in this industry, you would probably think I would have seen a unisex wig before, but the new Zuma wig from Rene of Paris, was the first I’ve seen (knowingly). Secondly, Simply Wigs also sell an amazing range of false eyebrows which look super realistic and are available in a range of colours and styles. And don’t foget the Ellen Wille semi-permanent brow powder, which is also brilliant.  I’m always 100% more than happy to help and offer tips and techniques to draw on brows or fill in the gaps naturally. I’m qualified in fashion and photographic make up, so whatever your age, or gender I’m always available to offer make up advice.

Everyone’s opinions and experiences differ when it comes to losing your hair, but
just remember that you’re not alone.
