How Do I Keep My Head Cool When Wearing a Wig?

How Do I Keep My Head Cool When Wearing a Wig?

Wearing a wig in the hot weather is no easy task, but when it comes to keeping your head as cool as possible in the heat, it doesn’t have to be a struggle. We’ve made a list of a few handy hints and tips you can follow so that you can keep as cool in the summer months as possible, whilst still looking fabulous and feeling confident!

Choose a Wig Base That Lets your Head Breathe

Although wig bases are very much behind-the-scenes heroes, they are sometimes essential to your wig’s appearance and also can determine how comfortable you feel in the wig. The bases of wigs can come in a range of material, with the majority being adjustable. When looking for lightweight wigs for summer, we would recommend a capless wig or a wefted wig.

If you are prone to irritation on the scalp and want to help protect this when wearing a wefted wig, then try a lightweight wig cap or a wig headband that only covers the front of the head rather than the full scalp.

Try a Shorter Wig Length or Hot-Weather-Friendly Styling

When wearing a wig in the hot weather, the length and styling of the wig can have a great effect on how warm you get. If you feel confident rocking a shorter length wig, then this is a great way to keep the heavy hair off your neck and allows you to feel the breeze.

But, if you are a long-length-wig-lover and aren’t ready to give your luscious locks up, braids and ponytails are always a great way to style your wig, keeping your hair in check and yourself cool. Opt for a Lighter Coloured Wig

Unfortunately, darker colours soak up a substantial amount of heat. As lighter colours tend to absorb less heat, they are recommended for the summer. We’re not asking you to go from black to blonde overnight, but even a wig that is a few shades lighter than you usually go for can really make a difference in the sun.

Embrace Headwear and Go Without

If the weather is scorching and it just doesn’t make sense to wear your wig, then why not just skip it entirely? It may be the first time you haven’t worn a wig in public, and we appreciate how intimidating that is, but if you feel comfortable giving it a try it could keep you nice and cool in the heat. There are so many amazing types of headwear available now, but for the summer we recommend either a fabulous summer straw hat, a chic headscarf or a fabulous turban.

It’s not summer time but when I go into a warm restaurant I feel faint and go very hot and red faced which is so embarrassing. The only cure is too go outside and take my wig off to cool down.
