Can you Put Lace Front Wigs in a Ponytail?

As a wig wearer, the age-old problem of wearing a ponytail is certainly not a new issue. Sometimes we crave the versatility of wearing our hair up: for the gym, bad hair days, in hot weather, or simply for style. However, for those who wear lace front wigs, you might have already questioned; can you put lace front wigs in a ponytail? Simply, the answer is yes – you can put a lace front wig in a ponytail when following the correct steps. Our guide runs you through the process and offers tips on how to achieve a natural-looking ponytail when wearing a lace front.

What is a lace front wig?

A lace front wig has lace on the front part of the wig, where the hairline is. So, if you’re after a natural-looking hairline when wig wearing, then a lace front wig is for you. Due to the spaced-out, and hand-tied hair, it gives the illusion of hair appearing from the scalp. Additionally, the transparent lace does wonders to blend into the skin on your forehead. You would never know someone was wearing a wig!

What are the benefits of wearing a lace front wig?

Lace front wigs are extremely popular amongst our clients for those who want a versatile wig. Lace front wigs are dynamic and pliable, allowing you to switch up styles and play with the hair as much as you want. They’re excellent for a variety of styles, however, you just have to know the tips and tricks on how to style them. Can you put a lace front wig in a ponytail?

For those who enjoy low ponytails or side ponytails, you can easily put lace front wigs in a ponytail! Due to the fact that the hair still covers the neckline, therefore hiding the lace, low ponytails are a great hairstyle to get the hair off your face.

For even more coverage, consider styling your hair in a half-up ponytail:

1. Part your hair from ear to ear.

2. Take the hair from the top of your head and tie it in a ponytail.

This allows the remaining hair at the back of your head to cover the lace, whilst you still get the benefits of wearing your hair in a ponytail.

Can you put a lace front wig in a high ponytail?

Putting a full lace wig in a high ponytail is a little more difficult. This is due to the fact that high ponytails expose the nape of the neck and therefore the lace at the neckline. However, if you wish to achieve a sleek high pony look, we have some tips on how best to style it below.

Use a wig cap

Using a wig cap helps to smooth your natural hair down, and offers a secure base to which the wig can attach to. Pin down your cap for a well-fitting finish; this will make it easier to secure your ponytail in place. For more information on wig cap construction, read our guide.

Use a wig band.

A wig grip band is essential for keeping your wig in a fixed position. Due to the position of a high ponytail, it can cause the wig to slide backwards – a wig band helps to prevent this from happening, and makes sure your wig is as secure as possible.

Utilize your natural hair.

If you have any natural hair to work with, combining a small section of natural hair with your wig helps to achieve a more natural look:

– Take your wig band and wear it over your natural hair, just on top.

– Use a comb to gently pull the edges of your hair out of the back of the wig.

– After you’ve attached your wig and have secured your ponytail, tie up your loose ends at the nape of your neck.

Your natural hair will cover the lace at the back, resulting in a more polished look!

For those without natural hair – not to worry. Attach your wig and tie up your ponytail as usual. Ensure that the lace around the nape of your neck is properly blended with your skin for a seamless finish.

Use specialised lace front wig glue.

To keep everything in place, you could try using a little wig glue to secure the lace on your forehead. To avoid any damage occurring to your hairline we always recommend using specialist glue that is designed specifically for lace front wigs, and remember to always use with caution! Once secure, blend the lace front with your skin for a perfect finish! Additionally, you could use wig tape for extra security.

Hairspray

The magic of hairspray! Make sure your ponytail is on lockdown with lashings of hairspray. Not only will this help to reduce the shine of the wig, it ensures that your ponytail stays secure all day.

Ta-dah! A perfect high ponytail.

And there you have it, our step by step guide answering the all-important question ‘can you put a lace front wig in a ponytail?’. For those worried about it looking messy, or are too scared to leave the house with a high ponytail for the first time, try wearing your high ponytail around the house first before you debut in public. This way, you can see where you might need to attach it more securely, and then will feel more confident wearing a high ponytail in public throughout the day. Practice makes perfect after all!
