I have to admit . . . My first wig five years ago, looked like a giant bird’s nest on my head! I have learned a lot about wigs since then as we will see. Whether you are wearing a wig for the first time, to give your looks a boost or because you are suffering hair loss due to medical reasons, you want your wig to look realistic.
If you are a wearing a wig for the first time then you probably have the same fear I did when I first started wearing a wig – that everyone will notice, stare and judge. Whatever the reason is for you wearing a wig, don’t let the fear of what others may think stop you from wanting or needing to wear one.
Wearing a Wig For The First Time
I have spent many hundreds of pounds (don’t tell my husband) on getting the perfect looking wig. I am happy now with the wigs I wear but it took time and practice. In my blogs I would like to give you information that is intended to help limit some common mistakes and hopefully save you a lot of time in getting the look you want to achieve and to not waste lots of money in the process.
Why did I want to wear a wig in the first place? I am very lucky to have hair however, it is not in good condition – it is very thin, frizzy and has been over-treated with heat, chemicals and dyes. I’ve had glue in hair extensions, removed glue in hair extensions myself (not recommended). I washed it every day, used products for thickening, for volume, for shine, then hot hair dryers and straighteners. I damaged it to the point it literally stopped growing. My poor hair screamed ‘please, leave me alone!’
Ok, so what to do? I could cut it into a pixie crop (not a good look with my ears 🙂 ), or give it a complete break. I always imagined a wig to feel like wearing a carpet on my head. With technological advances however, today’s pieces feel like real hair and look like real hair too. There are many different types but you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a really good looking wig.
Your wig (which really does not look like a wig at all) is lovely very suited to the shape of your face too I think. The condition and shine far out way a lot of heads of real hair I see a lot of the time. I have to take medication every day because of an illness I have, which has thinned out my hair a lot,I struggled for two years, trying to make my hair look decent, but it never really looked good,I spent hours and it drove me mad! Until I found Wigs on the Internet. I have never looked back since.
