Candy Floss Hair

Candy Floss Hair

Wish I’d done it ages ago…

As a child, I wore my thick, glossy hair in plaits, ponytails, or loose natural waves. It had a ‘weight’. I could swish it.
In my twenties, things changed. My thick, strong hair got thinner and thinner. The texture changed, becoming ‘fluffy’ and light. It wasn’t pink, but did look like candy floss. Impossible to style, products were too heavy. Made my hair flatter, stiffer, but still candy floss..

It sapped my confidence but seemed too ‘trivial’ to matter.

I pretended to ignore it but my hair was always in my thoughts. Rain caused instant frizz, wind displayed my scalp. I avoided lights, too. Light behind or above would shine through my hair.

Instead, embarrassment and self-consciousness ruled.

I wanted to forget my hair and get on with life.

I felt ashamed as if it was somehow my fault.

It crushed my spontaneity.

Before discovering Simply Wigs, I spent too much money and hope on ‘solutions’. One treatment involved coal tar and infra-red light. Like something from a sci-fi film. Masses of hair fell out, which, they reassured me, would make room for new hair.

I found Simply Wigs four years ago.

Now, aged 64, my ‘hair’ is how I want it. At first nervous about wigs, I feared having too much hair after my thin frizz. But, the opportunity to try styles at home, returning those that didn’t suit me, was amazing. For me, ‘the one’ was Tropical Mono Lace Deluxe Super Wig by Gisela Mayer. The way I look now reflects who I am. Something I didn’t have before.
Others have said here they wished they’d done this sooner. Oh, me too. The quality, professionalism and understanding of this wonderful company means so much.
Now, candy floss can stay at the funfair.
Caroline.

  1. Thank you so much to everyone for your feedback – it really helps to know I’m not alone, as I used to think. Wonderful to hear proud and strong voices. Our hair is only one part of us. Thanks again. Caroline x

  3. ) had a bad experience with urhair. Like Val ,when the wig arrived it looked nothing like the advert.
The “ hair “ looked as though it belonged on a Barby Doll . After many complaints it was obvious
my money was never going to be refunded .
    An expensive mistake .

  4. Sounds exactly like my story. At that time wigs were nowhere to be found. I wish they had been available then . I didn’t get a wig until I was in my late 50’s. People with good hair have no idea how lucky they are. My only problem now is I am 67 and my face is so saggy, I still don’t look good. My wig looks good, but my face doesn’t. Enjoy your youth young ladies, or if you are a older lady that still looks good, cherish that.!

  5. Sounds just like me
Feeling like a second class citizen. Nice to read that other people feel the same. Must be wonderful to go to a hairdresser and have your hair styled. I would be too ashamed to go to a hairdresser so thankful to Simply Wigs.

  6. Thank you so much for this. Beautifully written and – for me – extremely relatable. The sense of shame makes no logical sense but I’ve been there too. Hooray for wigs!

  7. The Letter from Caroline is exactly how I would describe relationship with my hair .
Too embarrassed to wear a wig as anyone who knows me would guess .
I love winter because I can show off with my assortment of berets
Hot weather is a problem though
I am getting close to buying my wig from the stylish Simply Wigs firm as they’re so realistic .

  8. Well done Sweetheart, Bless you, you look beautiful, enjoy life. Zelda, long time wig wearer.

  9. I recently purchased a wig fron urhair…….it was a lovely light silvery blonde which was the shade I always wanted….
when it arrived horror upon horror………it was simply awful and looked nothing at all like the representation of it on the sight……..It was cut so badly and it wasnt like any hair I have ever seen………ghastly!!
I couldnt sent it back cos I was very ill.. so I still have it in my wardrobe
    Yuck!
I will always stick to my usual wig supplier in future which is simply wigs..I have never had a problem with those suppliers….
    thank you
