I lost all my hair following my first pregnancy

I lost all my hair following my first pregnancy

My hair has always been baby fine, thin and delicate. No matter how good a stylist or colourist I have been to, there was nothing they could do with my hair to give it volume – it was just flat, thin and lifeless.

So, my hair lived inside a surgical cap at work or an updo with various additions to pad it out, to limited effect. The first time I lost all my hair was following my first pregnancy. I lost large patches. This became worse with my second pregnancy. Gradually my self-confidence was eroded, then the perimenopause hit, and I lost what little hair I had at the sides and front. I started wearing hats to go out, and even inside as I hated how I looked.

By the time I was diagnosed with malignant neuroendocrine tumours in my pancreas and liver, stress caused most of my hair to fall out, even before the chemo caused the rest to go.

I finally decided that I was going to have the hair I always dreamed of. This is where Simply Wigs came in. I now have a lovely collection of wigs and for the first time I love my “hair”, my confidence has improved. I just wish I had taken the plunge earlier and enjoyed changing from long to short, to curly, red, blonde or brown, depending on my mood.

I’m a total convert! I also love doing updos with my wigs – uber glam! Even if my hair comes back, the wigs are staying! If you have lost your hair for whatever reason, embrace the opportunity to try something new, and even if you have great hair, you can play with different looks that are not permanent.

Love, Julia xx

  1. I’m completely on board with you about changing your look any time you feel like it! You are an inspiration to us all and look beautiful. I too would like to hear more about how to do up-do’s in the hope that we get some warm weather soon. I hope you are fully recovered from your illness now and live every day looking and feeling amazing. You are beautiful xx
