Learning To Get My Confidence Back After Hair Loss
The Power Of Eyebrows
Wearing glasses meant I found trying to do my eyebrows every day very difficult. So, I made the decision to have them tattooed. What I really didn’t want was dark eyebrows! When I saw the tattooist she suggested having shading, which is hair-like strokes with a soft, powdered effect. At the time she said they lasted longer than microblading. Best thing I ever did! They are still good 7 years later.
Figuring Out My Hair Loss
Around the same time, I also noticed my hairline was receding somewhat, but put it down to age. Over the next few years my hairline continued to recede and then suddenly started receding around my ears. After visiting the doctor who said she thought it was hormonal and suggested HRT patches. I’m on the patches still.
The shock I had two years ago, when I noted my hairline had got a lot worse. Spending time trying to grow a full fringe to cover the hair loss, but even that hair became thinner. Then I had a light bulb moment when I decided I needed to really tackle the issue, when I was walking towards my husband and it was really windy. He said he had not realised how bad the hair loss was! I then decided I really needed to sort something out. Since then, I have seen a Tricologist, and went to the NHS Dermatology department. The diagnosis was FFA and am being investigated for Lichen Planopilaris. I tried a hairpiece from the hairdresser but unfortunately I was allergic to the tape and my skin kept breaking out.
Learning What’s Best For Me
So, I had to give it up. I tried a few cheap wigs off the internet for style and colour. Then I found Simply Wigs. I bought my first wig online (Tori wig in Creamy Toffee) at the beginning of this year and feel very lucky and always have compliments about my hair. I’ve been saving to get another wig with a monofilament top and a lace front. I always put everyone and everything before myself, but this has been the best thing I’ve done with the encouragement of my lovely daughters. Thank you Simply Wigs for giving me my self confidence back.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. It is inspiring to people like me who also have found added confidence by wearing wigs. Tori is a beautiful style and suits you perfectly.
Thanks for sharing. So many women are now reporting they’ve been diagnosed with FFA. Mine started 30 years ago when they didn’t even have a name for it! It was a slow and steady progression, helped by the fact I had very thick hair at the start and I didn’t actually start wearing wigs until about 5 years ago. I have to wonder whether there are dietary or environmental factors playing a part in the increase in the number of women with this condition. Anyway, onwards and upwards ladies!
You look absolutely gorgeous and nowhere near 77. If I had been asked to guess your age I would have said 57. I wear wigs with a monofilament parting and they really do look amazing. My next move is to buy one with a lace front. I do actually have quite a lot of my own hair now but there is no chance I would stop wearing wigs. They really have transformed my life!
