My cancer was misdiagnosed by my GP for sometime which meant that something that should have been less than 1cm became a large 12cm x 8cm mass on my scalp which needed removing and then reconstructing.
Unfortunately, this meant that I am left with a permanent bald patch on the left side of my head.
Throughout the whole journey, from having a large weeping tumor on the side of my head and 2 days of surgery, my husband Frank has been my rock.

From the days when I couldn’t wash my hair for weeks due to the graft healing, to the care of the graft (I couldn’t touch it for weeks) to getting my first wig – which he hated (it was too dark, we learn our lessons!) he was there for me.
There were times where I wanted to shave the rest off, times where I was worried about people seeing the wound, and times where I hated what I saw…why me!
He was there, looking in the mirror with me and watching my bottom lip wobble. He didn’t once move from my side. He’s been my protector, my confidant and my hero. I’m now 5 months on and proudly sporting my wig, I also have the confidence to go out without it, which I wouldn’t have had if it hadn’t have been for him.
