The long and winding road

The long and winding road

My name is Susan and I am 65yrs old.

I count myself very lucky for everything that I have in my life. I have 4 grown up children and 6 beautiful grandchildren. Along with my husband these individuals have been my rock when times have been so very hard and finding it near impossible to go on.

In my early 50’s I developed a very overactive thyroid which made my hair very thin and in turn caused me to become severely depressed. Unfortunately, 3 yrs later I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer which had spread to my nodes requiring me to have a lumpectomy, chemo and radiotherapy treatment over the course of a year. I went on to develop truncal lymphedema and had 11 septic infections so I have to carry out ongoing lymph fluid drainage exercises every day so I suppose you could say I’d been through the mill, or so I thought.

In October 2018 my hair started to shed excessively and I put it down to all the stress however the shedding continued and by Xmas, I was totally bald and was diagnosed with alopecia. To add insult to injury 2 months later I had lost all semblance of hair on my body including eyebrows and eyelashes. I now have AU (Alopecia Aniversalis). It has taken me over a year to try and come to terms with this condition as treatment is still in its infancy, unlike the cancer treatment I received. I still find it extremely hard. Another blow 10 months ago when I developed a squamous cell carcinoma on my face and more surgery. If it wasn’t hard enough being bald I now have a facial disfigurement.

This has been a very hard road to travel down but that’s where SIMPLY WIGS have been fantastic!! You can literally pick up the phone and order the most gorgeous wigs in all sizes and colours, I have a petite-sized head and very sensitive scalp so I would totally recommend them.  Nothing is too much trouble and their friendly and supportive staff make the whole process so much easier and comfortable, it is so reassuring to know that they are there without leaving the house in these difficult times.

Thank you SIMPLY WIGS so much.

Love Susan
