Wig Bank | Simply Wigs

Wig Bank | Simply Wigs

Mission Statement

To provide a friendly community network that will support and educate women undergoing cancer treatment, medical treatments that results in hairloss, or are necessity wearers. Our goal is to provide all women, regardless of status or location the support in finding a wig.

What is a wig bank?

Our scheme allows women to obtain a pre-worn, reconditioned, synthetic wig, for a minimal cost of £5. The proceeds are then donated to charity. Our friendly staff will assist with the choosing & fitting of the wig, at our weekly drop in session. If required, our trained staff will also trim the wig for you – free of charge. We are here to help you find the perfect wig.

How do I qualify for a wig?

We will consider anyone that is undergoing cancer treatment, has any other medical treatment that is causing hairloss, or are necessity wearers.

How much will my wig cost?

All wigs will cost a minimum donation of £5. Your payment will then be donated to charity. What charity do we support?

We support Kirkwood Hospice. This fantastic charity provides specialist care, free of charge, to adults with advanced, progressive illnesses at any time from diagnosis to the end of life, respecting their individual needs and wishes.

I have lots of spare wigs, how do I get involved?

All you have to do is package-up any spare wigs that you may have and send them to:

Wig Bank : Simply Wigs
Unit 2e
Spa Fields
New Street
Huddersfield
West Yorkshire
HD7 5BB

Simply Wigs needs our wig wearing community, to make this work.

We are asking our community to take a look and see if there are any wigs that they no longer wear, or perhaps the style just wasn’t suitable. By donating these wigs, our community are supporting each other. It is a fabulous way of recycling wigs, at the same time as extending kindness to our fellow human beings. Helping others feels good.   If you decide to take the time and pack up your wigs and post them back to Simply Wigs, Simply Wigs will then donate £5.00, on your behalf to Kirkwood Hospice. We will also send you a certificate to thank you for your time & effort, in donating your wigs.

What do you do with the wigs?

Once we receive the donations our staff will:
1. Check for quality and categorise into Brand New, Nearly New, and Worn
2. Wigs are then washed and fully reconditioned.
3. If required, steamed, repaired and trimmed if there are any damaged/dry areas.

Will you fit and style my wig?

Our trained staff will fit and trim your pre-worn & reconditioned wig, free of charge.

Do you need a wig from our wig bank?

Simply call us on 01484 844557 or email us on [email protected] with your cap size, style and colour preference and we’ll match you as well as we can with a wig that suits your needs. Not sure how to measure your head? See here for a step-by-step guide. If you are looking for a specific colour and length, then do call us to discuss this. We can then check our donations, to ensure that we have something available, which may suit you. 1. Hi, yes we are always incredibly grateful for wig bank donations! Your generosity makes a huge difference in the lives of those navigating hair loss. All you have to do is package-up any spare wigs that you may have and send them to:

SWL – Wig Bank, Unit 2e, Spa Fields, New Street, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD7 5BB

Thank you so much for donating and thinking of us, we really appreciate it!

  2. Hello Karen,
Our NHS Co-Ordinator is currently unavailable, so I’m afraid we are currently not accepting NHS Vouchers.
    Please accept our apologies.

  3. Hello

Are you currently able to accept wigs? I have two I would like to donate. As some of the communication is not recent I wanted to check before sending them. Thank you.

  4. I have a couple of wigs that I made for myself and no longer need them. They are real hair 22 and 24” so very long. Would suit someone younger than myself. Hardly worn in great condition. I can send photos if anyone would be interested. Colour of wigs is 1b.

  5. Thanks Stuart – I’ll hold to it for now and I hope I can donate at some time in future.

  6. Hi there, due to the current Covid-19 situation we are not currently not accepting wigs 🙁

  7. Hello

Could you let me know when you are accepting wigs again. I have had one in the wardrobe since 2008 so it hasn’t been worn recently, but is in good condition (only wore it a few times while having chemo). I would love it to be useful to someone.
    Thanks

  8. Hi there,
Unfortunately, during this Covid-19 period, we are not accepting any wig bank donations 🙁

  9. Hi I have a lot of unwanted synthetic wigs which are all bright and vibrant in colours like white and blue. Colours which are unnatural. Would you accept them as donations?

  10. What a really lovely idea. I have alopecia and buy my own wigs as the NHS haven’t been helpful at all so would I qualify?

  11. Oh this is wonderful! You are truly the best people. I shall definitely send my wigs on now and not just put in the dustbin as had been suggested to me ?

  12. Recently I was asked for picture with my certificate of donation to your wig bank, needless to say I have never practiced social media but wish your company all the best on a well worth idea. I have been looking for a good few years for a donation charity as I remember well the help I needed from family and friends to buy my first full priced wigs, oh for a place like yours 10years ago

  13. Hi, thank you for the offer 🙂 Please send the wigs with or without the packaging as each wig that is returned to us, is fully reconditioned and reboxed. Any wigs that are deemed of as unsuitable will be disposed of.

  14. Is it ok to send the wigs not in the original packaging? Or to send wigs that have been cut or altered? I have some synthetic wigs that I curled with hot rollers and trimmed or cut.

  15. Such a great idea , I have a wig which is brand new only worn once as wasn’t sure it suited me
I’m sure it will suit someone else and will be so happy it’s been put to good use as was wondering what to do with it.
    Fantastic idea, well done xx

  16. How lovely ? I have many to sort through and send onto you. Nice to know that they’ll be helping others.

  17. Hi Lizzie,
Thank you for your question 🙂
Once we receive the pieces we will wash and recondition each one to make sure that they come up to a good standard.

  18. As already said by so many others, a really wonderful idea, it’s ‘win win’. I have about four wigs I will be sending, champagne blonde, with dark roots, fibre. Currently I don’t need them though they all still feel very precious because they made my life so much more bearable as I went through cancer treatment.
I so hope they can be of help to someone else who really needs a boost. Thank you sincerely for starting this scheme.

  19. I have been keeping my used wigs for a long time not knowing what to do with hem. I have quite a few some may be wearable if they can be restored . They have lost their lustre . I hope some can be of some use.

  20. Excellent idea – I’m sure that I can identify a wig/wigs to contribute.
    Best wishes.

  21. Hi, this is amazing! Last week I sorted out several wigs I no longer need. I was at a loss to know what to do with them so I will now be sending them to you. All are in very good condition, not worn much. I hope you can make good use of them. What a wonderful idea!

  22. What a brilliant idea. I have 10 ladies wigs, which I have 6 that have only been worn once or have never been worn. I am very happy to
Send you the 6 wigs that I no longer want.
    Thank you.

  23. What a great idea, well done guys!

One question – how worn is too worn? I’ve just been through my handful of old ones and one has damage to the base which could be repaired with some translucent thread. They will all need some steaming

    Many thanks, Liz

  24. Hi Simply Wigs,
What a great way to destigmatize wearing wigs and to help people who could do with some support at the same time!
It’s lovely to see a company meeting the needs of its customers so compassionately…well done !!

  25. This Is a fabulous idea. I have a least ten wigs I would be most happy to donate(some of which have never been worn) unfortunately the postage would be astronomical and und I am not in a good place financially at present. It would be wonderful if you could obtain sponsorship from a company that would allow donations to be sent be free post.

  26. I only wish that you had initiated this sooner,
I have just had a wig clear out!
But I am sure that I can find the odd one lurking at the back of a shelf somewhere.
In future I know where all my spares will be going,
Well done Simply Wigs, brilliant idea.

  27. I have some wigs that I will be sending to you I wished I lived nearer to you and could visit your premises

  28. That’s a great idea, I have some wigs to send in, I could do with a cheap wig for working in. X

  29. Well done on this initiative!

I have some new and unused wigs that were donated to our local support group and I’ll be putting them in the post to you very soon.

  30. I wish I had seen this a few weeks ago as I have just donated 5 wigs to a Charity, who plan to sell them on. I was pleased to know that they were going to be used again.

I will certainly send you any others I decide I won’t be wearing again, as it is so good to know they will be put to good use and able to help where I can.

  31. What an amazing idea I will be sending some wigs to you that I don’t wear anymore ,I hope they help someone that is going through a bad time

  32. A fantastic initiative! I have definitely got some to donate. I’ll be in touch xx

  33. What a fantastic idea…..Im unaware of any scheme like this in NZ but food for thought.
