The Ultimate Guide On Wearing Synthetic Wigs In Summer

The Ultimate Guide On Wearing Synthetic Wigs In Summer

Summer is here, and with the beautiful long days and the happiness of being outside, comes higher than usual UV rays. We wear sun cream and stay in shaded areas and try to keep our skin covered, but what do we do for our wigs?

Synthetic fibres are not made to withstand too much heat. Extended periods of time, a few days or weeks, in the sun can cause frizz and breakage, and the UV rays can lead to discolouration. Darker shades and unnatural colours (such as pinks, purples, blues etc.) are more affected by this fading and dullness. But don’t worry! There are a few ways you can avoid damaging your wig.

Pair Your Wig With Summer Headwear

Very simply, covering your wig up will shield it from the sun. Breathable turbans and head scarves will not only help keep you cooler, but also keep your wig out of the sunlight. A wide-brimmed hat will provide even more coverage, especially if you wear longer styles. They get bonus points for protecting your wig from wind and weather changes too. Headwear also adds an even more fashionable element to your look, bringing protection and style to summer.

If you wear a longer style, tying your wig up can keep the ends and majority of the length safe from UV damage, and keeps the hair away from your neck for a cooler feel. With so many different types of headwear, there is bound to be something to match your style.

Caring For Your Wig After A day In The Sun

Caring for your wig is even more important during the summer. Hair Tip Liquid is excellent for taming and controlling any frizz caused by the heat or humidity. Apply a small amount to your fingers and gently rub it in, then style your wig as you usually would. It brings back a bit of shine to your style, and can prevent breakage. If your wig does have any signs of sun damage, you can leave your conditioner on for longer than usual (around 15-20 minutes) for a deeper condition.

This will have your wig feeling softer and looking better in no time at all! It is also important to make sure the Shampoo and Conditioner you use for your wig is right for the fibre. Most brands have their own products for their wigs, and these have been carefully made for each type of fibre. Ensuring you have the right product is key. Check out the product description of your wig if you are unsure of which care product you will need.

The Perfect Wigs For A Hot Summer

The last thing you want is to be too hot in summer. Breathability and air circulation is the most important thing for your comfort when it comes to the warmer weathers. Wefted styles, specifically open wefted caps, are perfect for this weather as they are more breathable with plenty of space for air to circulate. They’re also a little stretchy for a more comfortable fit. Shorter styles and wigs with lower density are also optimal for summer, as less fibre and less hair will create more airflow, and be lighter to wear.

If you prefer a handtied material but want a wig cap that breathes, there are plenty of handtied options that have slim hidden wefts underneath, that provide air circulation without sacrificing the comfort of the gentle material. Hopefully these tips will help you out and keep your wig looking and feeling its best all summer long!
