Wearing a Wig
Like everything, there’s a downside to wearing a wig. The sad, the frustrating and the funny. If you’re new to wearing wigs, don’t worry, because I still find myself facing new challenges daily. I’ve been in countless disastrous situations one of which involved my drunken self, losing my wig in the middle of a night club. The shame that I would have saved if I had known that wig tape existed!
For me, I have patches of hair so I couldn’t live without a wig cap! Without one I find that my wig often slides on my hair underneath and I’ll have loose strands come through. They can also help if you have a particularly sensitive or itchy scalp, however this is totally a personal preference.
In most cases I’ve never really needed wig tape, but it can be useful for lace front wigs. Lace front wigs are one of my favourite styles of wig, they look so realistic and you can brush all of the hair off your face without feeling insecure about what’s on show because it looks like your natural hair line! I can’t recommend these enough if you’re a bit like me and sometimes you just want to have a big messy bun on the top of your head. We can’t be glam every day right?
By adding a couple of tabs of wig tape close to the lace front, your wig stays in place all day! It is completely transparent and totally comfortable. Like, I said these are all down to personal preference, but I think it’s important to try each method out at least once to figure out what works for you.
Thanks for the comments everyone! Really glad that this article has helped many of you and I hope you have found some new confidence to experiment and try some wig tape. Lots of love x
I’m 63 and lost a lot of my hair due to health problems thyroid now lupus. I can wear hair toppers but good ones are difficult to find and I have to admit am still nervous about wearing wigs, in case they fall off. The comment about treating it in a funny way I shall take on board and hopefully use. I’ve heard and seen lace front wigs but have never known how to wear one so thanks to the mention of the tape will now really think about it.
Great article! Thanks.
I lost my hair 5 years ago and lost confidence in playing oudoor sports which have to be played in all weathers. It was suggested I tried the Dimples range of wigs as some have the poly strip ideal for sticking wig tape to, also with the lace front and mono top it doesn’t matter how windy it is the wig feels secure and I have been told how natural it looks. Many thanks
