My New Look Has Given Me Hope

My New Look Has Given Me Hope

I noticed my hair thinning over the last 4 years, I put it down to getting older (I’m 48), hormones and perimenopause. I’ve been dyeing my hair dark brown for years, but after only three weeks, the grey would show and really expose my thinning hair and scalp.

Struggling To Cope

I’ve tried using coloured fibre and root touch up to try and cover it up, but it made my scalp itch and so very sore. (I also had a skin condition where my scalp got flaky and sore). This also didn’t work, so made me feel so self-conscious.

It was getting me down. I don’t bother with skin care or makeup, and it didn’t really matter as I work from home. I have tried many cheap wigs and an expensive one, but it really didn’t look right.

A Bold New Beginning

Around 3 weeks ago I decided to shave my hair off and I bought the Breezy wig from Rene of Paris, from Simply Wigs. It fits perfectly and although the colour is bold, I love it! I’ve started to take care of myself a lot more and focused on the way I look. It’s really changed the attitude towards myself, it’s amazing what a difference a change can make.

I wear my wig out and about, but more importantly, I’ve not given up and am looking forward to finding the perfect one and trying new styles. I felt guilty that I shaved my head when I wasn’t ill, but it really did get me down. My new look has given me hope.

Love Victoria x

  1. You look So So good brilliant choice ( I also have similar problem to you. ) After 4 or 5 styles and a few colours. I found one I love from simply wigs . I now enjoy getting ready ,making choices in clothes I always wanted to wear.. Because of my hair I didn’t want to draw attention to myself. Why do we wait so long to uplift our lives.

  2. Hi Victoria, I really understand your story, the first time my hair came out I decided to cut the rest off because it made wearing a wig more comfortable.
My hair has now come out four times but the latest is the most severe, everything has gone but it maybe because of a different medication I’m taking. I was asked if I wanted to come off the meds to see if my hair would come back. I just said I have a brilliant wig supplier so I’ll stick with the meds.
You look beautiful with your new hair so I know you’ll stick with it and just enjoy it.
    Kindest regards

  3. Your story could have been written by me, as the hair loss, perimenopause/hormones, itchy, sore scalp, bald patches are all what I experienced. Plus, I too shaved off my hair once I started wearing wigs. I’m totally happy in wigs now (eleven years on) and, in fact, I find them a real advantage – no hairdresser appointments, no time wasted washing, drying and styling. Just put on a wig in the morning and ready to go! The real bonus is the self-confidence you feel when your hair looks good – and wig technology is so super fabulous these days that no one knows you’re wearing a wig. Best of luck with yours!

  4. You look brilliant! I have similar problem and have lost most of my hair on front and crown..it’s so depressing to live with. I’ve just begun to wear a wig after almost 4 years with a hair system, which looked great most of the time but was increasingly painful and lost me even more hair on top! Wigs are the way to go!

  5. You look fabulous Victoria. I’m loving the colour. It’s something I’d like to go for but I’m a bit nervous. But having seen it on you, I feel quite brave now!

  6. Your new look is fabulous. It looks so natural, and you really suit the colour and style. It is a true saying ‘your hair is your crowning glory,’ You look amazing.
    Health to enjoy.

  7. Victoria, Hi. Such a nice story about a person realising just how important they are. It’s funny how important our hair is to our feeling of self worth. What a brave move, to shave your head. Your new wig looks so natural, and really suits you. I’m sure that your confidence will improve in leaps and bounds as you get used to the new you. Thank you for sharing your story, it’s good to know that we are not alone.

  8. Wow I didn’t know that was the wig brilliant.Ihave 2 of these wigs and they are amazing
I really thought that was your own hair and it suits you so well

  9. Well done you on taking that bold step!
Despite having several wigs which I wear occasionally (and used to wear when my hubby and I went dancing – sadly he died in 2018)I have yet to take the step of wearing a wig more regularly.
My hair has always been fine but is now at 74 threadbare!! I have a large patch at the back which is completely bald – it’s called male pattern baldness. Your stance has inspired me to be bolder – thank you.

  10. It is extremely hard on a woman when losing her hair. Thank goodness for wigs. I only started wearing wigs in June of this year due to very fine and thin hair. I have already bought about 10. It is hard to find a perfect one because of the color. Some look light in the videos I watch but when I get them, they are too dark for me. That’s OK. I do my best and keep trying. I think the gray wig you are wearing looks fantastic on you. Just keep moving forward. By the way, I am not brave enough to shave my hair off.

  11. Your Looking fabulous!
I’m the same . Not lost all my hair but it’s thin and patchy.
Like you , I bit the bullet and got a wig . Never looked back .
Fantastic it’s given you the confidence back .

  12. Wow ! You look fabulous in your wig. I have alopecia which is making my hair to receed and I buy from simply wigs and I agree with you that it makes you feel so good about yourself. And so much fun to try different styles depending on your mood.

  13. Good for you taking the big step there is no going back now . I have alopecia but have hair at the back of my head and I shave it off as my head is more comfortable wearing my wigs. I’ve been wearing wigs now for 14 years and it has changed my life for the better . Initially I was playing it save with the style of wig but not now ! I love love love my wigs I it’s great deciding which colour and style To wear on a daily basis. My confidence is good especially when people comment on my beautiful hair. I just smile and any thank you no need to tell strangers unless I feel like sharing that I wear wigs. Good luck with your wigs journey

  14. So understand how you feel and glad you’ve made the decision to wear a wig which looks lovely on you.
I think the worst comment I get when I wear my wigs is “It takes 20 years off you”. I wish people would keep their comments to themselves. I wouldn’t dream of going out without my wig.
    Simply Wigs saved my life
