Anybody seen the brilliant advert on the telly at the moment by Bristol Street motors…
“What’s yours called”?
It is so true that a lot of us call our cars a name. I must admit I haven’t got a name for my current car, but I do remember that my first car I drove, after passing my test, (yonks ago). It was a Blue Talbot Samba and to get it into second gear, you had to practically put it in fourth first.
She was called Betsie. I must like this name as we have called our second dog Bestie.
Anyway, I digress. We already know that there are some great product names that are sold within the world of wigs, such as Longing for Long, Stromboli and there is even a Love Affair! Here at Simply Wigs HQ, we have the opportunity to talk to lots of our lovely customers and the consensus is that many of you already have names for your wigs!
There does seem to be a leaning to calling our wigs a ‘she’ rather than a ‘he’.
Do you call yours Doris, Wilma or even Betsie?
So, let’s put it out there . . .
‘What’s your wig called?’
Tell us what you call yours and let’s share a giggle.
When I got my first wig after losing my hair to chemo, someone asked me if I named it. I didn’t even know that was a thing. I usually just call it my hair. I have my curly hair today, or I’m wearing my wavy hair. My super curly wig does have a name, Curly Sue, and I have naturally curly hair, so call my straight wig Pancake, as in “flat as a pancake.”
Twiggy wiggy
I call one of mine Wiggy Azalea. ?
“Kristen Wig” after the american actress Kristen Wiig. It’s a little pun on the name.
Whatever makes us happy!
I don’t call my wig anything either. I like to think it’s just part of me and If anyone in the family asks when I will be ready to go out (pre-lockdown – remember the days?) I’ll just say “I’ve just got to do my hair” They know what I mean! Enjoying all the comments, it’s good to keep our sense of humour!
Oh that’s lovely, you’ve got a keeper there!??
Mine are all called, ‘the girls’. We have a laugh over this. My husband will say something like, ” I saw ‘the girls’, drying on the bathroom shelf and I thought we had visitors and said, Oh, so sorry, please excuse me”…
Seriously, he loves them, because they make me happy…xx
My hairy hat or just ‘my head’. I tend to say I’m nearly ready, just got to put my head on. Or I can’t wait to get home and take my head off.
I’m glad I’m not the only one! I find it weird – I don’t call my t-shirt ‘rebecca’ or my socks ‘bill and ben’ or my big thumbs ‘eric’ – it seems a weird disassociation to me. Perhaps because it’s been part of me for so long that I see my wig as an extension of myself, but not myself, if that makes sense. Calling it a name would make it something I saw as separate from me but a personification. The Cockney rhyming slang makes most sense I guess: ‘syrup’ is cockney, ‘short for syrup of figs’ (wig). I don’t like the word wig, but there we go, sometimes if I have to explain and I feel uncomfortable I just say I wear a hairpiece. Anyone else NOT call their wig anything??
Mine have a enteric name too – Rapunzel!!
My current one is called Miriam. No reason. I had one called jimmy. It reminded me of a man I once knew who had real hair ( a mullet) like it. I never liked it !!!!!!!!!!
Happily, my hair has long since regrown, but while I was having chemo, I called my wig FitzWilliam, as in it fitted the bill
Mine is called hammy – short for hamster cos when not on my head it could be mistaken for one at first glance! It is also cos I dislike calling it a wig.
My husband calls all my wigs Syrup… from the episode of”Only Fools+Horses ‘ when Del Boy was trying to flog dodgy looking wigs… it’s our little joke!
Mines called Piggy as it rhymes with wiggly.
No, ‘cos I do too!
I call mine my hat!! I e can’t wait until I get home to take my hat off
I call mine my hat,
I have several….my favourites are called…..WooWoo, MooMoo, and BooBoo lol
Am I the only one who finds this bizarre?? ????
Maud, my second name.
Mine is called April I have a few in different colours but all are called April, my friends just say what colour April are you wearing today.
I call my wig – wiggle!!
Crazy, but the first thing I thought of when I got it.
Rosemary
It’s my hat
Hattie or sometimes just Hat!
I really dislike the word ‘wig’ and so I refer to mine as my ‘halo’!
Mine is called Rosie.
I have several wigs and have painted their names on their respective polystyrene heads. I use the first name that pops into my head when I first unwrap a new wig. Names chosen include Hattie, Joan, Amy, Eleanor, Mia, and Claire. I am so glad others may have done the same, as my family think it an odd thing for me to have done, and one friend think it is plain “creepy”!!
My wigs have the generic name of “Sylvia”. I can’t even remember why!
The guinea pig – it’s a girl’s toupe to hide my treatment induced receding hair line.
The cat ! My husbands name for it….Well it does look like one when its lying around.
