I have worn wigs since the age of 7

Hi ladies.

I have worn wigs since the age of seven. due a medical condition called monolithrix.

This means my hair isdescribed as ‘thick and thin’ on each strand of hair. As a child I was bullied at school by name calling etc.

Growing up with wigs

When I was a young girl, I had to wear the NHS wigs, which to be honest are real hair, but are to thick and bushy, and have no style. Then as I grew older and earned my own money I ventured into buying my own synthetic wigs. Which was great, but still struggled with styles.

I turned to real hair wigs but realised that with a growing family and the fact that they take more time to maintain, I didn’t have the time to look after them. So I went back to synthetic wigs. Over the years there has been a greater choice of styles with better quality and they are more affordable.

So now I mix from bobbed to longer styles . You just have so much choice. I wear a bob for day wear and longer styles for nights out .

Confidence with wigs

It makes me so confident knowing I can choose styles to please me. My daughter has the same condition, Monilethrix, and she has the same outlook as me – different wigs, for any occasion. Only the other day a lady commented on my hair and asked where I had it coloured and cut. She couldn’t believe when I told her it was a wig!

I’m never ashamed to say it either.

Thank you for reading,

Pam.
