I sing with a ladies barbershop chorus and we have been lucky enough to travel to international competitions in America over the years. Our hair has to be swept off the face and coiffed to perfection.
My hairline was gradually moving backwards and I was eventually diagnosed with Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA) some years later. There was no way in competitions that I could have my hair swept off my face I felt I looked ridiculous and was so self-conscious about it and I also lost my eyelashes.
I looked at alternatives and even had extensions put in the front but then Covid struck and the salons were closed, the tapes of the extensions were halfway down my forehead and I had to take them out myself. What now?
I came across Simply Wigs when searching for alternative hair and decided to order my first wig. When it arrived I was so excited but when I tried it on it looked awful. For one I had not measured my head properly and it was far too small. I now know I measure 23″ and need a large cap wig. I duly returned the first one and ordered another one, a Raquel Welch Winner in large.
Oh my goodness, what a difference it felt so comfortable and easy to wear. Unfortunately, there is not such a good range of large-cap wigs available and hopefully, in the future more will be produced.
I do love this wig but I need a more ashy colour as have just had my 70th birthday and I find that the blonde is ‘too blonde’, if you know what I mean. I expect that I shall be ordering another one soon.
Everyone loves my new hair, nobody can believe it is a wig, and the more you wear it the more confident you become. Pixies are easy and they last a long time if you look after it well. Simply Wigs are simply the best I wouldn’t go anywhere else x

Fran – have to say I agree with you. No woman should ever feel obliged to cover up her thinning locks. Sharon – Simply Wigs are good but I don’t buy from here exclusively as other companies often have better deals.
I wish Raquel Welch did a ‘transitional’ shade similar to the Jon Renau Martini. I no longer feel right in blondes but don’t have the skintone to go with the silvery greys. Getting the colour right can be tricky!
Hi Sandra, thank you so much for your story of hair loss and your Winner photograph looks great. Thought I would share with you that Winner was my first wig and I still wear it on long-haul flights because it is so comfortable. Have you tried the colour ‘Glazed Sand’ I think you would like it. also, the wig Voltage also by Raquel Welch may suit also in the same colour, that is my emergency wig, always looks great rain or shine. I hope this is helpful, we need to share and support each other. I have the same condition as yourself.

Sandra, I’m glad you found a style that gives you the confidence to get back out there and continue your singing. It looks great.
However, I also want to add that I think others really need to consider the constraints they put on people to conform to a prescribed image in order to continue doing something they enjoy. In your case the singing community is not recognising hair loss of any type whether medical or via the aging process.
Hi Sandra you look fabulous! I am like you was 70 last year and decided to go for palest grey or white, as I felt my blond just didn’t feel as comfortable anymore.
