Where It All Began
I first noticed my hair thinning on top about five years ago. It started around my parting, and it became even more obvious whenever I wore a centre part or a fringe.
Over time the this became more noticeable to me, especially in a small patch in the centre, just behind my hairline. It just looked odd, and I could see through to my scalp more in that area as well as a little further back toward my crown.
How Can I Fix This?
It seemed to be getting worse, but maybe only to me. To help disguise it, I used those hair powders you tap on to make your hair look thicker. They helped for a while, but I could still notice the thinning, and it eventually started to bother me more and more.
I tried bleaching my hair to make the contrast between my hair and scalp less noticeable, but I went too far with it and caused quite a bit of damage. I ended up cutting in a fringe to try to hide it, but that turned out to be a mistake too. It just didn’t look right, and I felt even more self-conscious.
Changing My Look
I decided to order a wig from Simply Wigs, the Esprit by Ellen Wille. I said to myself if it looked alright then I’d shave my head. Turns out, it looked great!
I’ve kept the shaved head since as it makes it more convenient to wear the wigs and have now become absolutely obsessed with wigs! They’re amazing! So nice to change my hair so much whenever I fancy!
A New Lease Of Life
It was a bit of a learning curve to make the first few look and feel like me, but I love them. I can wear ones with more volume now too, like Raquel Welch’s Wavy Day.
I’d definitely like some more hand tied caps as I find them so comfy for wearing for longer periods of time.

Fabulous story. Such bravery, that I recognise as I too shaved my head back in 2023 after chemo. My hair has been growing back slowly. Very different to my hair before which was very thick and lovely, even though I say it myself!!
It’s grown back all different colours white, black and blonde!! Whispy, curly!!
After shaving my head I too found Simply Wigs, and experimented with different colours , shapes, and finally settled on a wig that looked like my hair before 2023. Finally got the colour right and haven’t looked back. So use to wearing a wig, know one notices!! And I am slowly regaining my confidence.
Bottom line, I am thankful to be alive, and wearing my wig gives me confidence, and I have this new sense of freedom, that says hey you are able to do what ever makes you feel happy with yourself!!

welldone girl i am the same i have a shaved head and half a dozen wigs in various shades not to outragious shades and it makes feel fabulous
