My Busy Life Won’t Stop Me From Having Great Hair

My Busy Life Won’t Stop Me From Having Great Hair

Hi, my name’s Maggie, I’m 71, and for years my hair was a constant battle. It’s thick, curly, often frizzy, and unruly. My busy life meant I rarely had enough time to style it, and even if I did, one step outside in the Devon coastal weather – windy, misty, rainy, drizzle, humid – and woosh, it’s all over the place! Hats became my go-to, but honestly, I didn’t always want to wear one. Was it too much to ask for my hair to look great nearly every day?

Parenting and Grandchildren

Over the years, my husband and I have fostered over 50 children and we still haven’t retired! I think I could be described as a very busy lady. I have numerous grandchildren duties, plus I’m a long-term carer to three children with special needs, whilst supporting my husband through cancer complications, and dealing with my own personal health problems that have sapped my energy and confidence. In fact, at times, I have found life quite overwhelming. There are never enough hours or energy reserves in a day, with very little time to relax with my husband, family, and friends. To put it bluntly, I look in the mirror and no longer see myself! I just see a tired old lady, and not the bubbly, energetic person I once was!

Weddings and Wigs

I’d never even considered wearing wigs, EVER! Recently, my best friend, Becky, started an Instagram page all about them. Around the same time, my son’s wedding was coming up – a mostly outdoor event.

I started to really worry about how my weather-dependant hair would hold up.

Becky and I got talking and, after a bit of back and forth, she introduced me to the Editor’s Pick Elite by Raquel Welch and I absolutely love it! We worked together to find the right shade as I wanted part of my natural blonde fringe to peek through. In the end, we got a near perfect match to my own hair in Pale Golden Honey. I honestly can’t believe how much time it’s saving me. No more weather worries, or endless attempts to tame my hair. I am so grateful for Becky’s endless help and patience in finding the right wig, and also to Laura at Simply Wigs for her help in colour matching shades.

At the wedding, people kept telling me how amazing and young I looked. I was happy to boast that it was a wig, and that they should try it. It’s worked miracles for my confidence and self-esteem. I was even confident enough to take a selfie, something I had always hated as I never liked how I looked in them. I’m already on the lookout for a second, longer beach wave wig that I can wear my hair clipped up. You can change your style daily, what’s not to love? I didn’t think I had a ‘real’ reason to wear wigs, but Becky convinced me otherwise. She told me the only reason you need to wear a wig is your own.

Now I wear mine with pride. There’s no going back! So if anyone is wondering if wigs are for them, stop hesitating and go for it. It’s the best thing I’ve done in a while. And yes, my wig also rocks in a hat.

Love, Maggie x

Me too! Your hair is curly – my hair is thin and fine and can’t do anything with it. Wigs save a lot of time and bother. Enjoy. : )

A wig worn to look like “natural” hair! How refreshing
Most people wear a wig with a perfect look, neat, tidy, flat, no life.
Their hair is a separate entity
Styling is everything
