Yes, wigs can be very comforatble if you have alopecia.

Many wigs are designed to be comfortable when worn directly against the scalp. If you have alopecia totalis or alopecia universalis, look for soft cap materials, covered seams and lightweight construction. Hand-tied and monofilament wigs can be particularly comfortable, although everyone's scalp sensitivity is different.

There isn't one type of wig that is best for everyone with alopecia. For daily wear or complete hair loss, a soft, lightweight cap can be particularly important. Monofilament tops can create the appearance of hair growing naturally from the scalp, while lace fronts can provide a very natural-looking hairline. Synthetic wigs are easy to care for, while human hair wigs offer greater styling flexibility.

The best wigs for alopecia are usually comfortable, secure and natural-looking. Many people with alopecia prefer lightweight wigs with monofilament, lace front or hand-tied cap constructions, particularly when there is little or no natural hair underneath. The best choice will depend on the type and extent of your hair loss, your scalp sensitivity, budget and how often you plan to wear your wig.

Storing your wig properly is important to maintaining its shape and quality.

• Ideally, you should store your wig in the original packaging. Simply comb through the wig to remove any tangles or knots, then fold it flat and place it back into the box. Store in a cool and dry place and away from direct sunlight to prevent any damage to the wig fibres.
• Alternatively, if you have lots of space, you could put on wig stands and have them on display. There are various types of wig stands available, including ones that resemble a head shape or simple upright stands.
